TALLAHASSEE -- Jim King has a 19-year record of solid fiscal conservatism in Tallahassee and a resume that includes the presidency of the Florida Senate.
He easily won the only three contested elections he's ever had and was most recently re-elected with 66 percent of the vote.
But King is worried about re-election in 2006, and he may have good reason. Jacksonville's most senior state senator is the only one of nine Republicans who is up for re-election after voting against a state law last month that may have saved Terri Schiavo's life.
King also is the subject of an online petition drive that asks Gov. Jeb Bush and the state Republican Party to suspend him, permanently remove him from office and bar him from representing the party -- all because of his Schiavo vote.
Only a year ago, signs along major highways in Jacksonville hailed King for pushing through a state law change while Senate president that won millions in state money for local schools.
"And this year, members of my own party are screaming for my head," he said. "It's living proof that politics is a contact sport."
It is uncomfortable but familiar ground for King, who already created a political crisis in 2003 by butting heads with Bush during debate over medical malpractice lawsuit limits. King led a Senate that took fire for refusing to support any lawsuit cap below $500,000, with the resulting stalemate dividing Republicans and causing a string of special legislative sessions.

Diogenesis,
I am concerned that in reality, most states are almost there in many cases. Pulling back the veneer on activities, I think we could find these practices everywhere, don't you?
I'm with you though. Won't be going to Florida with a relative who is disabled. Who knows what they'd do if something happened there? Too bad, too. Love Disney World, orange blossoms, Naples, Key West, key limes, and Sanibel/Capitva. Florida's landscape is just plain cool.

Here's the money graph:
Senator King is a board member of the Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, which oversees the day-to-day operation of Woodside Hospice where Terri died, last Friday.
It couldn't be any creepier if this hospice were run by vampires.
King should read this, if he already hasn't:

Agreed.

Don't paint all of us Floridians with the same brush. Central FL isn't like other parts of FL (Pinellas, Palm Bch, Broward, and Dade) which I refer to as Arkansas with palm trees.
Central FL and other parts of FL isn't like Pinellas, Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade counties, which I refer to as Arkansas with palm trees. Although King is from Duval county which is solidly Republican.
Let me guess... This is the first and only "positive" article that the The Florida Times-Union has ever run on this guy, and now only because he stood with the Democrats against Terri Schiavo.
I don't think he has anything to worry about unless he has done something that has deeply offended a large part of his base. If he were to have done something that really went against the grain of his supporters, then -- yeah -- he has something to worry about. And he should be worrying.
If it were -- well principles -- that caused him to oppose the will of his voters, then he should not be upset if he does not get reelected. I mean who wants to represent a bunch that do not support his deeply-felt principles.
If on the other hand, it was perceived political expediency or even a favor to a lobbying group . . . in that case politics is about making decisions that get you RE-ELECTED. So, if he gets voted out, he ain't got no kick coming. Anyone who screw up a political decision that badly deserves to get turfed out.

He's also a huge fan of Hospice....wonder why?
King is also one of the trial lawyer leaders who is blocking medical malpractice reform. Hope he loses!
If you're referring to King---he was a hospice board member and I'll think you'll find many of his campaign contributions are directly associated to the hospice-death mill industry. We have to make it a priority that this individual is removed from office

Looks like Jabba!
How ironic for one so obese to vote to starve another!
Senator Jim King blocked the bill laws that could have helped Terri.
Please take time to drop Senator King an e-mail or give him a call if you feel inclined. If nothing else, please remember his name as one of our pro-death Senators.

Agreed. I know that many good, knowledgeable FReepers residing in Florida will do their best to campaign against him. The rest of us, not residing there, can help with researching King's ties, contribution money, etc., long before there's active campaigning.
And I do hope a good person (perhaps well known) will run against this creep.
King is on my article list---he's next up after Greer
