I say to my conservative friends, some day there will be a liberal Democrat president and a liberal Democrat Congress."

I am willing to live by the words of the Constitution.

The Senate rules have been designed to pervert the intent of the Constitution. In order to follow it, you take your medicine whether it's good or bad.

The Senate, on the other hand, has devised a way to dominate the other legislative branch and even the presidency. They are the 2nd most influential oligarchy undermining our republic....the first being the judiciary.

Stupid Democrats don't realize that after Bush gets his judges, we can always put the old rule back and let the Democrats look stupid if they try to do the same thing.

Essentially, Nelson is doing Frist's controversial bidding for him...

And, Mr. Frist, be very aware that I will rememember this should you decide to run in the primary in 2008.

If Ben Nelson does indeed help the Republicans, it will prove he has a SET!! maybe McCain can borrow them.

What did McCain do in the VietNam War that was so heroic? I KNOW he was a POW for many years, and that's just awful, but it's not heroic, as such, unless he saved a life in prison or something like that. Anyone have details of his heroism?

A bump for Nebraska -- probably driving my dad nuts -- he's 91 and votes dim all the time.

"I say to my conservative friends, some day there will be a liberal Democrat president and a liberal Democrat Congress."

Then Senator Jellyspine, we'll do what we have to do then to prevent that from happening.

Winston Churchill put it best...(and it was a pain in the neck to find the right transcript) "We shall go on to the end... we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength... we shall defend... whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender...

If Nelson has his way, Republicans may soon control the entire judiciary. Already Republican appointees hold a majority on 10 of the nation's 13 federal appeals courts.

And yet, the courts routinely rule in ways that support Democrat positions and undermine Republican positions.

Doesn't that put the lie to the claim that it's dangerous to put Republican appointees on the courts?

Senators Allen and Coburn at the OK Convention asked everyone to start using the words Constitutional Option and lose the "nuclear" option. They were both emphatic that this will come about shortly and the judges will be confirmed.

"I say to my conservative friends, some day there will be a liberal Democrat president and a liberal Democrat Congress." - Senator John McPain

Show some leadership, Senator, and do what is right for the country. You will be shown to be demonstrably right, and that won't happen for at least a generation. Sacrifice some of your popularity with the media for your country!

Awhile back there was a rumor that Nelson wouldn't be challenged for his seat. I have forgotton the specifics of the deal but I believe it concerned switching parties as his election drew near in return for keeping his seat in Congress. At very least bi-partisan cooperation in exchange.

So many rumors it is difficult to sort out Truth from fiction. If Nelson does support us on judges and proves a decisive vote I would say the rumors were true and his seat is "safe" from challenge from the GOP. To make doubly sure of that in an atmosphere where people are voting more partisan, I would suspect it likely he'd switch parties.

I'll say this, if this is more than panic'd thought on the part of the Dems I'd vote for him if in the state no matter if he had a "D" by his name. Few issues I'll do a crossover vote on any longer, but this would take courage that should be rewarded. Just as I hope to see Hagel, Chafee and later McCain booted out.

called Nelson and told him to support Frist on the Filibuster vote. If Nelson wants to keep his job, he better think twice about voting with Hillary, Kerry and Byrd on this one!

When Bill Clinton was president, we, effectively, in the Judiciary Committee blocked a number of his nominees," John McCain told MSNBC.

Gee, is McCain talking about the last six years of the Clinton presidency, from 1995 on? Because for those six years the Republicans controlled the Senate, and thus the Judiciary committee, thus that situation isn't comparable to what's going on now. I would hope that as a sitting U.S. Senator, McCain would have the most basic understanding of just how these things work.
