McClinotck Begins Luitenant Governor Campaign

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) - State Sen. Tom McClintock, the rock-ribbed conservative who made headlines two years ago when he ignored his fellow Republicans' pleas to drop out of the race to replace Gov. Gray Davis and leave the field open for Arnold Schwarzenegger, is getting an early start in the 2006 race for lieutenant governor.

Campaigning in Orange County on Saturday, McClintock told members of the group Principles Over Politics that the job appeals to him because the lieutenant governor presides over the state Senate and is California's chief executive whenever the governor is out of state.

"It places the office in the position of being a great generator of reforms," McClintock said. He also defended Schwarzenegger against complaints that in recent weeks he has backed off efforts to overhaul the state's pension system and institute tighter budget controls after his proposals came under sharp criticism.

"We have to bear in mind that political battles aren't tidy affairs," he said.

McClintock and Schwarzenegger were at odds for a time in 2003 when the legislator became the only major Republican to refuse to drop out of the race to replace Davis if he was recalled after Schwarzenegger became the front-runner to replace him. The two put those differences aside last year when Schwarzenegger campaigned for McClintock's re-election to the state Senate.

McClintock is making his fourth campaign for statewide office, having lost the gubernatorial race in 2003 and two previous bids for state controller. First elected to the state Assembly in 1982 at age 26, he served there until 1992 and again from 1996 to 2000. First elected to the state Senate in 2000, term limits will prevent him from seeking another term there in 2008.

He is the first Republican to announce his candidacy lieutenant governor in 2006.

You're embarrassing yourself.

Indeed, I am wasting my time.

Go back to bed.

I'm caring for a sick puppy. You are apparently one sick puppy too.

It's always someone else's fault, isn't it?

Apparently you can't deal with the truth.

What truth? All we get from your faction are lies, denials and blame of someone else. A bunch of spoiled children.

I don't know why you folks bother with the flame baiter, Clintonbegone, the clown doesn't live, work or even pay taxes in California, the clown is in Michigan for pete sakes...with all the problems MI has the clown ought to be over there trying to solve their problems instead of sticking his nose in ours.

And we fought this fight in 2003 and the polls clearly showed that if the selection had been between McClintock and Bustamante, that McClintock would have won overwhelmingly.

These two or three RINOld fan club members can smear McClintock all they like but as I predicted we can either
VOTE FOR MCCLINTOCK or pay the consequences and we're paying the consequences BIG TIME!

NOT ONE BUDGET CUT, MORE BONDS(read loans) and DEBT AS FAR AS THE EYES CAN SEE!

At least FareOpinion has the sense of self preservation to run and hide when confronted with facts.

You just change the subject.

For the benefit of lurkers, and because I really am taking care of a sick puppy (she's chewing a rawhide now).

She's one great Dutch Sepherd dog, rare as hen's teeth, and to be respected.

I've never known Fairopinion to hide from an honest debate. Perhaps a more likely happening is he's busy watching his own kids at recess.

See #34.

California conservatives rarely seek advice from Michigan Big Tent RINOs/moderates/liberals. Particularly those which, like you and your hyena pack, are soft on illegal immigration.

Being Issa put his own money where his mouth was and didn't attempt to stay in and sabotage the race like McClintock says volumes.

Thanks, CBG.

C_O, did you miss me? I play when I want to play, not when YOU want me to.

Speaking of facts, facts to some of you are like garlic to Dracula. That is exactly what upsets some of you -- you can't handle truth and reality.

I checked in, but CBG was holding down the cause of reality so well, he didn't need any help.

Then I got busy trying to explain to some others, also totally detached from reality, that Cuba is not a nice place and Castro is no democratic leader and gentleman.

As I said, some surrounded themselves with "fact-proof glass" and live in their own little dreamworlds.

McClintock tried to derail the ONLY chance the Republicans had at winning the recall election by staying in the race.

I don't "Forget and forgive". No, he didn't succeed at helping Bustamove get elected, but he TRIED. I'll be giving to his opponent. He must be punished for what he tried to do (I believe attempted murder is just as bad a murder).

You tried to screw me, Tom...Now I'm going to screw you!!

LOL. Had McClintock voters not showed up to the polls to vote "Yes" on the Recall, the Recall would not have passed and Gray Davis would be Governor.

McClintock GOT Arnold elected; hardly sabotage.

Just why has it now become dishonorable to run for office to try to give more traction to your ideas? McClintock is a very effective spokesman for his ideas. Win or lose, the state will be better for McClintock having run. California is a very long term project at this point. There DOES seem to be a rather irrational animus towards McClintock. This "RINO" in good standing really doesn't understand it.

ROFL! Actually, facts from you would be welcomed. It seems every time someone asks you for support for your statements, you can't find them, forgot to save them, or you're too busy. But you keep posting this garbage.

Actually you are really complaining that I am NOT posting the garbage of so-called conservatives stating it on this board, that they preferred Bustamante to win, rather than Arnold.

Some day, some of you will slip up again, and I will make sure to preserve those posts for posterity and post them, as requested.

Clinton did everything in his power to deliver California to Bustamante. Sorry, but I don't see how conservatives can continue to support someone who did this.

I said "Clinton", I meant McClintock -- must have been a Freudian slip.

Clinton and McClintock both suffer from serious narcissism, that, and that alone drives their actions.

McClintock in my opinion would have dropped out if he thought there was a chance Bustamante would win. But Willie Brown had it right. Bustamante was stuck at 30%, and thus not in the hunt. In any event, carrying old grudges seems rather dysfunctional to me. Someone said that Arnold was helping McClintock. Perhaps it is time for you to consider moving on from your fixation. Just a thought.
