File this under unsubstantiated gossip. Was chatting with Jim Robbins. He keeps hearing this morning that the president might have some OBL news tonight? A new Islamist website is reporting that bin Laden is dead...and Musharraf has for the first time said publicly that OBL is in his country. We shall see...I'm skeptical. Jim is too. Jim adds wisely though: "if there is major terrorism news the president should just talk about that and talk domestic politics later -- if there is no major news, he should stick to his domestic agenda." Social Security reform rocks, but, uh, would get buried with OBL in the news coverage.
Still...skeptical. But I said Ratzinger wasn't going to be pope.
He will tell the "enlightened" press corp that he will not be running for another term-As President!

If this is the case, then I can hear it now. They are going to say he has been dead for a while, and Bush is just trying to use this to pass his social security reform. Even if that is the case, then I do not see why that is such a bad thing? However, like I said I highly doubt it.
Nope haven't heard that one. But I did hear one that Teddy K. has switched from Chivas to JW Black Label. Chivas stock took a tumble today.

rumors? If we knew fersher, OBL was dead or zarky was in the bag, we would have a "WE GOT HIM" moment as fast as possible in this media age. Word would spread - wouldn't you squeal?
It would just be good news if he was dead. What would be wonderful news is to find out the Israelis have had him in custody since 12 Sep 2001 and he's not dead....yet. I'd want him to wake up every morning after 2 hrs sleep thinking "No way can today be worse than yesterday.", but be proven wrong yet again.
IMO, there is a danger in hyping it concerns anything but S.S. and an Energy policy. If it turns out only to be on those subjects, any positive momentum he might make will be defaulted by the reality the rumors of bigger news were without merit. The Conference would then be a waste.
That said, in what contect were these statements by Barnes and Kristol spoken? I will admit I find it a bit unusual the President is focusing a late night appearance on domestic policy. He isn't known for doing so, outside of the SOU.
Just think how poorly it would reflect on the USA if they found him with the WHOLE woman on his head!
I have to agree SS isn't going anywhere and all the pushing in the world isn't going to change any minds right now. If the whole thing is SS with a smattering of energy policy I will be very unhappy.
