Most of Mrs. Bush's humor at the correspondents' dinner was just right: Edgy but not over the edge. But I think the stripper and horse jokes were totally beneath her.
Just put it to the other-shoe test: If it were Teresa Heinz Kerry standing up on the dais telling the same jokes, the conservative commentariat would be buzzing for the rest of the year about what a tasteless skank she is.

Well, I can only state after almost a week of some of the nonsense that has been leveled at Laura Bush that people's tempers are frayed. You didn't see the previous threads. Fair enough. But take it from someone that did, they were pretty vile. Someone else stated the anger in this thread is a backlash to what was previously spoken by these individuals. I'd say that's a fair assessment.

That Laura's comments were a "national disgrace"? Or that Laura is "white trash"?
Please...like I said you may find one or two but the vast majority simply thought Laura made a couple of tasteless jokes.

If Good Christians are really Good Christians and they know the comparison to the "Taliban" doesn't fit.. why are they even bothering to be upset by the comparison to the "Taliban". Are you serious?

Howlin.. it's only the "good Christians" who were compared to the Taliban, I thought I read. That leaves all the rest of us as "bad christians"?
Truth be told, there are some christians who are "holier than everyone else". Some of us just fail to observe their "holiness", I guess...

It was perfect! I wouldn't change a thing!
Kind of reminds me of all the criticism of the twins at the convention.
Those girls reached lots of young people on their own level. We needed those votes.
If the girls came across as stuffy old ladies it would not have helped at all.
