Most of Mrs. Bush's humor at the correspondents' dinner was just right: Edgy but not over the edge. But I think the stripper and horse jokes were totally beneath her.
Just put it to the other-shoe test: If it were Teresa Heinz Kerry standing up on the dais telling the same jokes, the conservative commentariat would be buzzing for the rest of the year about what a tasteless skank she is.

I just didn't take it that way, bill. I don't even mind the people who were mildly offended by it. What I mind is the constant trashing of a lovely woman ... the manufactured outrage and name calling is agenda driven and make conservatives look like lunatics.

Some are bad, some really not awful enough to justify them being lumped together with the Taliban. You found the one that said Laura was acting like a whore and that person was roundly criticized. I believe that was the only one on that thread.
There may have been other threads that were worse. Some here say there were. However, their judgment on this thread leads me to believe they probably overreacted there too. However, I can only judge this thread and the other one you posted from.
I have to agree with you that the hyperbole is a little over the top on this issue, as some other issues have been of late here.
