Washington (AHN) - Senators John McCain and Edward Kennedy have teamed up to introduce a bipartisan immigration reform bill that would take the 10-12 million illegal immigrants and position them for citizenship.
The proposal would allow illegal immigrants -who have cleared criminal background checks, passed an English language test and paid a $2,000 fee- to apply for temporary work permits that could last for six years.
At the end of the six years, they and their families could apply for permanent resident status, and five years later for citizenship.
The proposed legislation faces an uncertain future because of strong opposition to any concessions to illegal immigrants from a sizable group of Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo, a Republican who would supports cracking down on illegal immigrants, said the bill offered amnesty to millions of people who had broken U.S. laws by entering the country illegally.
However that is not the only sentiment on the hill, Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez of Illinois called the bill an "orderly, humane, compassionate immigration policy" that contained incentives for illegal immigrants to enter the legal economy while punishing them for entering the country illegally by forcing them to pay the $2,000.
Look at the names attached to the bill: McCain and Kennedy. Isn't that "enough said?"
Wall Street loves this. They can't seem to do without those bottom rung workers who'll do the jobs we Americans won't do, eh? Baloney!
Heard this on NPR yesterday. American Chamber of Commerce loves it. It's "bipartisan" so it must be good. [/sarcasm]
I hate to admit it, but this is a better amnesty program than GW has proposed. Good positioning, politically, by McKennedy.
At least we'd be getting something out of the illegals.
That said, I am against any amnesty program for illegals.
(Check out the thread on the border patrol be told to limit their arrests in Arizona.)
WTF are these politicians thinking????????????
That's the problem. They aren't!
Anyone know anything on the progress in Texas or Arizona on secession?
You must have some reason to say this. In what way is it better or worse?
My question is: When are the American people going to get a break from this illegal colonization?
U.S. Constitution Article 1 Section 8 Clause 15:
"The Congress shall have Power to provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections
"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government,
Thanks! I'm too busy for a flamewar today.
