Mexico's Fox toughens talk on U.S. immigration law

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexican President Vicente Fox called recent U.S. measures to stem illegal immigration a step back for bilateral relations on Friday and said Mexican migrants do jobs "that not even blacks want to do."

In comments likely to raise the temperature of the immigration debate, Fox defended the role of undocumented Mexican workers in the United States to a group of Texas business people meeting in Mexico.

"There is no doubt that Mexicans, filled with dignity, willingness and ability to work are doing jobs that not even blacks want to do there in the United States," he said in a speech broadcast in part on local radio and reported on newspaper web sites.

Fox said recent, tougher measures against immigrants do not represent "the road we should be building between friends and partners."

Mexico has been seeking an accord with Washington for years to make it easier for millions of illegal Mexican immigrants to live and work in the United States. The country expects to repatriate this year more than 250,000 foreigners, mostly Central Americans headed for the U.S. border.

Mexican hopes were raised early last year when President Bush proposed a temporary worker program but it has become bogged down in Congress.

A key partner in U.S. border security, Mexico is upset at new U.S. controls on foreign-born people, including tougher rules to obtain drivers' licenses.

Congressional Republicans attached the immigration changes to legislation providing $82 billion in emergency funds for fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bush is expected to sign the legislation into law soon.

The law, approved unanimously by the Senate on Tuesday, waives environmental rules to allow the extension of a fence on the border between California and Mexico to stop illegal immigrants. Mexico calls the measure "overly extreme."

But Fox said he was encouraged by a bill put forward on Thursday by Sens. John McCain, an Arizona Republican, and Edward Kennedy, a Massachusetts Democrat, to allow some of the estimated 10 to 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States to get legal jobs and eventual citizenship.

"I hope President Bush will support and push the initiative, as he has publicly agreed. I have to take his word and hope he delivers," Fox said.

The chief parasite speaks.

Aint that the truth. You would think the "President", and I am using that term loosely, of a sovereign nation would at least try to understand the laws of another wouldn't you? How can we do anything to curb illegal immigration if the leader of the country we are trying to curb, supports illegal acts? This guy needs to be arrested thru international law and brought before an American court. Lately our judges seem to cite law from other countries in order to rule against our own constitution, why not apply it in this case? What a POS!

The only problem is, Mexico is not our friend.

This says it all, don't it!

I'm at my wits end with Mexico's government. How much more do the American people have to take from this third world trash heap?

When you say 'socialism', do you mean Americans refusing to be reduced to a 1900 level of workplace safety, benefits, and standard of living ?

When I say socialism I'm talking about the government seizing the wealth of the productive and giving it to whomever politicians decide to bestow it upon. Many Freepers object to immigrants obtaining this largesse, and on that basis object to immigration. I have no problem with people moving here to work, anymore than I'd have a problem with someone having children who will one day enter the workforce. Our standard of living is the consequence of productivity gains, not government largesse. Our population in 1900 was 76 million people. We're no poorer for it being 300 million today.

If I can locate an address for Pres. Fox, this is what I will send him. Any suggestions?

No merecen quedarse aquí.

Idiota.

Sinceramente,

Los CIUDADANOS de los Estados Unidos de America

[For the hard-of-Spanish]:

Dear Mr. Fox,

Don't tell us how to run our country, Vince. The US of A belongs to us, not to you or to the poor Mexicans you send here.

They are not "undocumented workers." They are ILLEGALS. They are invaders. They have violated our borders without permission, and are living and working here ILLEGALLY. If they want to live and work here, they must request permission through the LEGAL process of immigration. We are a country of laws, and the illegals do not respect our laws. They do not deserve to stay here.

What would happen to me if I entered Mexico without permission, and I took a job that "no Mexican would do"? Of course. I'd be thrown in jail.

Vincent, you are a shameless enemy of the United States of America. We are living in a time of war, and you dare to say that as a soverign nation we do not have the right to defend our borders? Idiot.

Sincerely,

The CITIZENS of the United States of America

I figured you'd pick up on this language soon enough without my posting it early this AM.

Methinks GWB's not going to be seen too often in the future with this moron Fox.

BE--with Fox as an ally, who needs the ChiComs as enemies?

Absolutely, they might take away jobs from illegal Mexicans entering the U.S. Of course, it is Mexico's right to stop illegals from crossing THEIR borders.

Fox is the classic example of a giant parasite complaining that his host doesn't seem to appreciate him or his offspring any longer.

Like I mentioned, if Mexico and/or El Presidente Fox would consider ceding Baja California to the U.S., there may be grounds for discussions for all this America goodwill!

Consumer market ? Illegals depress the wages of American citizens. How does that impact the consumer market ? How much money will someone whose family is in Mexico spend in the US ?

Americans are afraid to ask, "What next?"

The Mexican government now publishes a book instructing its nationals on how to be an illegal.

Ironically, one of the big selling points of the NAFTA deal was that it would greatly alleviate illegal Mexican border-jumping......but since that time it has skyrocketed.

Adding insult to injury American taxpayers are subsidizing foreign aid transfers to Mexico. The government of Mexico---with all of its oil revenue----needs to be taking care of its own people, "outsourcing' them as wards of American taxpayers. Mexico can well-afford it.

Mexico has more "Forbes" billionaires, 11, than all but eight other nations. It has more billionaires than Saudi Arabia, Switzerland or Taiwan. It also has more than 85,000 millionaires.

According to a CNN report, Mexico sits on oil reserves worth about $400 billion, but Mexico's state-owned oil company, Pemex, doesn't have the investment funds to tap those reserves, and Mexico's Congress refuses to allow foreign investment in Pemex.

According to Visa International--which is now clamoring for a share of the transfer fees--American money sent South of the Border by illegals constitutes $38 BILLION this year alone constituting Mexico's second largest most profitable industry.

America should mandate proof for all cash transfers out of the US and/or force all transferring agencies -- banks, credit unions, Amex, Western Union to collect a substantial withholding tax -- 50%, say -- on every unexplained foreign remittance.

America needs to seal our borders and let Vincente Fox know that we will cut off every penny in aid he gets from the United States.

Fox's elitist, unmitigated contempt for working-class Americans cannot go unchallenged.

Stripped of Ayn Rand babble about "government seizing the wealth of the productive", whatever the hell that is suppose to mean here, what you want is a cheap labor society. There is no shortage whatsoever of Americans willing to work. There is a shortage of Americans willing to work for slave wages and that is what people like you want.
