PROGRAM -- (Senate - May 20, 2005)

Mr. CORNYN. Mr. President, on Monday, the Senate will resume consideration of the nomination of Priscilla Owen to serve as a circuit judge on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Monday will be the fourth consecutive day the Senate considers the Owen nomination.
Over the past 3 days, a number of Members, on both sides of the aisle, have come to the floor to speak on the nomination. We have conducted over 25 hours of debate, and we will continue on Monday. Moments ago, we filed a cloture motion on the nomination, and that will ripen on Tuesday of next week.
On behalf of the majority leader, I remind my colleagues the leader has announced our next rollcall vote will occur Monday afternoon at 5:30. That vote will be on a motion to instruct the Sergeant at Arms to request Senators' attendance. Senator Frist will have more to say about next week's session on Monday.
Hope Lindsey Grahm has a host of challengers next go-around
That kind of language isn't necessary here. If you can't make your point without it, then it isn't that strong to begin with.
There are some that are thinking that we are overreacting, but when you have made as many calls and sent as many e-mails as you and I and a lot more have that have been on the threads the last four days...
But I think we have earned the right to feel let down and I dare say, we probably don't feel near as bad as Sen. Frist does right now-- he manuevered this whole day, calling for an all night session, positioning the last four days and calling for the cloture...coming right down to fish or cut bait time, and
John MCCain, comes riding in, doesn't even have the class to talk to you first, announces a compromise and takes all of glory for being COMPROMISE MAN!!!!
Absolutely ... he's toast! Can you imagine how Frist feels?? Working like a dog, faithful to his principles and his mission .. only to have a turncoat from HIS OWN SIDE totally betray him and make a mockery of all his good and decent efforts? He must be disconsolate .. along with Bush .. although I think Bush is completely furious... actually spitting mad. I do believe this has set Frist's course as the Republican candidate in '008 .. CONSERVATIVES DON'T FORGET!
McCain could never win the presidency as a Republican. Too many Republicans woudl stay home--why vote for a RAT in a RepublicRAT's uniform?
McCain would switch parties and run as a RAT--that would be his only chance.
And you would believe DeWine and Graham now, why???
After everything they have been saying on the Senate Floor and in pressers .. Do you really think they care?
They know the only way they can control this country is through the courts .. it's all they have left and they will fight till the bitter end to keep the courts
The Democrats need to do what they say or the moderate Republicans will not appreciate being made to look like fools.
The Dems keep making the pubbies look like fools and yet nothing is done about it ...
Do I have to remind you how Rockefeller and other Dems made a fool of Pat Robertson with those Senate Intell Memos??
Oh .. let us also not forget the Judaical Memos that were leak also
Sounds good. Congrats on the new mando.
And don't forget the Veteran vote---he may be a veteran, like Kerry was, but he called the Swifties, frauds...

IMHO, McCain eliminated his already pitiful chance to get the Republican nomination. He's made too many enemies.
There are more RINOs as Senate Republicans than there are true conservatives as Senate Republicans.
The Republican'ts are clones of the RATs.
IF McCain did this to cut down Frist as a potential '08 candidate?
Then Frist instantaneously becomes my front runner. I will take Frist and ride him to the top of the chain just to create a massive backlash in that RINO's face for this betrayal.
People talk about a Hillary backlash haven't even begun to see the backlash forming against that power hungry fool.
I just e-mailed McCain and told him I will always respect the way he served our country, but as for now I am disappointed and I would never support him for President!
I just swithed to c-span 2 to see if the Senate was done for today--and they were showing the press conference again, and the shot of all of those compromisers was a very wimpy looking lot....
I don't think there was enough testosterone in the men to produce enough sperm for one baby--and the women, well, they reminded me of Cinderellas ugly stepsisters...
I want to know if Mccain did this to sabotage Frist in '08. I didn't have any favorite, but If he did, I'm becoming the most vocal Frist supporter he's ever had for '08.
As one who has done a fair amount of negotiating, I assume Frist would have figured this scenario as a likely outcome of his efforts.
This senate debate as been likened to a war. When leading up to a war, you make a threat that is believable while also pursuing other means to a remedy. A good negotiator knows that when he uses power, he creates the atmosphere for compromise, so long as the parties are rational.
We have observed the gathering of two armies poised to fight for the castle. One army withdrew today, undefeated. Can the fight again? Yes. Will they? Probably not.
I guess those bashers won't be eating any crow tonite.
