TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Jeb Bush was in daily contact with congressional leaders in March as court efforts to intervene on behalf of Terri Schiavo faltered, according to e-mails obtained Monday from the governor's office.
The e-mails, released to The Palm Beach Post in response to a public records request, also show that state lawmakers persevered with legislative maneuvering to keep the severely brain-damaged woman's feeding tube intact, despite advice from Bush's top Schiavo attorney that such an effort was hopeless.

Sen. Dan Webster, R-Oviedo, tried vainly to persuade his colleagues to support a bill that was drafted by Gov. Bush's office but which the governor's top Schiavo lawyer dismissed as futile. Ken Connor last fall tried unsuccessfully to persuade the Florida Supreme Court to uphold the "Terri's Law," passed by Florida lawmakers in 2003. That law gave Bush the authority to order Schiavo's feeding tube removed, but the court struck it down in October.

I never understood why the *Terri's Law* of 2004, would have not been the end of Michael Schiavo's ability to end Terri's life. Gordon W Watts, a Freeper had a better ruling to uphold Terri's Law from the Fl Supreme Court, than the Gov's own lawyers. Jeb's ruling was 7-0 against Terri. Watt's received a 4-3 ruling, sadly also against.
If just one more judge would have ruled in Terri's favor, she might have had a chance. Judges decided if Terri should live or die. She didn't even have her own lawyer to defend her. Her stinking husband had a Fleet of lawyers, including the ACLU, to make sure she died.
Guess it's good that Jeb's people were still trying to do something. However, I don't like what the article said about Jeb's top lawyer, Ken Connor. He dimissed/said the bill which was DRAFTED BY THE GOV'S OFFICE, was futile???
What the heck does that mean - Why didn't they write a bill that would have had some teeth in it? My biggest question was always WHY DIDN'T A LAW ALREADY EXIST, which would have saved Terri? Nothing makes sense to me. * Shrug *
Yep, nothing like an executive branch member ignoring court rulings, pandering to a very small percentage of citizens (most from outside of his state), and taking the law into their own hands. Who needs a form of republican government within his state? Republicans are in charge so what they say goes and we should put complete trust in Republicans because they would never sell conservatives down the river...

You know what. I apologize for the "pinhead" remark, and the coconuts remark too. I really do. But the fact that I have not been on these boards as long as you has nothing to do with the merits of my argument. Instead of pointing out my "newness", you could at least have attacked my point on its merits or lack thereof.

No junior I'm not a Republican statist like yourself. I'm a conservative. Perhaps without relying on hyperbole, and without quoting Article I Sec 2 of the Florida Constitution as if it were written by God Himself, you could supply a valid argument for the governor of a state to call out State Guard units to defy a state court order.
Since you won't be able to do either, I expect a link to one of the useless St. Terri sites or another baseless argument relying purely on emotion or what you want the law to say

1. To save someone from being starved to death.
2. To overthrow judicial tyranny.

Here is the deal, in the fall of 2004 war was declared upon FR by the DU. They flooded us with infiltrators, and they are still flooding us. All of you are suspect. That doesn't mean that there aren't infiltrators who have been 'sleeping' for a long time. The are typified by not having done profile pages and they have very little, or no, posting history. If you're tarred by the same brush as them, sorry about that. All you can do is let each and everyone of your posts bespeak your character. I can't tell anyone what to do, but I can suggest that in light of this infiltration that newbies try to limit their inputs and opinions to positive statements. If not possible, keep the negativity from being controversial. What I mean by that is not to rant. Just a suggestion. I accept your apology. Please don't think of newbie as pejorative, more accurately it is descriptive.

So you now know the mind of God? You know beyond a shadow of a doubt that this was not God's way to allow Terri to go to Heaven? Has the knowledge of the Republican Party now reached into Heaven itself to know God's mind? God is my defender and will remain always so, as was the same with my Southern ancestors. When it's my time to go, I hope and pray that your kind has not changed laws to the point that the time of my death will be in question with God's timing and more to suit your 'pro-life' statism

God has mysterious ways, I know, but I find it hard to understand why a merciful God would countenace a still-young (41 yo) womand WHO WAS NOT TERMINALLY ILL to be starved and dehydrated to death. A cruel way to go. BTW caps do not mean I am yelling; think of it as italics. Thanks.
I was uneasy about Connor's quote as well. I don't know whether we can get a direct answer from anyone though. I wonder if it could be because the courts have refused to rule against one another that no matter what bill was put forth the judges would nix it.
I don't really know for sure how I feel about the fact there were emails going back and forth. I think it could be viewed either way.
I feel like the press conference that was held with DCF when they were going to take Terri into protective custody was for show. They showed their hand and it cost.

As I expected. You have stated what you want the law to be and not what it is. Neither of the positions you have provided have decent precedents to show that a state government can send out troops to override court decisions. What is disturbing is that you are willing to give any executive the power to override whole government systems to enforce his will. You do realize the intent of the Framers was to establish republican forms of government in the separate and sovereign states don't you? What you and others are advocating is the executive's supposed right to override any decision he disagrees with. A limited monarchy!! Absolutely smashing.
I will hand it to you though. At least you haven't tried, yet, to run and hide under the skirts of the US Constitution as it never applied in this case.
