Governor, lawmakers in daily contact on Schiavo, e-mails show

TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Jeb Bush was in daily contact with congressional leaders in March as court efforts to intervene on behalf of Terri Schiavo faltered, according to e-mails obtained Monday from the governor's office.

The e-mails, released to The Palm Beach Post in response to a public records request, also show that state lawmakers persevered with legislative maneuvering to keep the severely brain-damaged woman's feeding tube intact, despite advice from Bush's top Schiavo attorney that such an effort was hopeless.

I wonder if we have enough men who do have the spine to do the right thing to make a difference. The way it is now, anything that comes up to change King's legacy will not pass, he'll get his little posse together. Real conservatives must run for office so we don't have to choose between RINO or Dem, there really isn't much difference though.

"Newbie" is a name, just like "pinhead." Understand "pinhead", or did Charlie drop a coconut on your head back in '68 or something."

... Jeb Bush is a gutless wonder who was just posturing--"sellin' wolf tickets" as the kids say. He had the power to use the FL National Guard and FL State Police to rescue Terri from the Barney Fife Pinellas Park cops but was either too cowardly to do so or didn't really believe in his heart that Terri Schiavo was worth saving. This is what happens when you elect silver-spoon rich kids to high office; they don't have the guts to put up a fight.

Wow man, I wish I didn't say I'd reply. Oh well, here goes; JB followed the law. We may not think the finding of the court correct, but it was adjudicated until the cows came home. JB had an obligation to follow the law. Perhaps he could have shown more guts, but if he would have the guts he would have been showing would be slopping all over the ground, because he would have been torn apart. You also spook pejoratively about 'silver-spoon rich kids' not having the guts to fight. This is a negative stereotype and quite untrue. Our history is replete with the sons and daughters of privilege who have paid the highest price, and your slam bags directly against the Bush family. Your compliment the PP cops also resembled a rant. These dudes were just doing their jobs.

Recapping; First sentence: Jeb Bush is a gutless wonder who was just posturing - "sellin' wolf tickets" as the kids say.Whats to deconstruct, this is your opinion. Second sentence; He had the power to use the FL National Guard and FL State Police to rescue Terri from the Barney Fife Pinellas Park cops but was either too cowardly to do so or didn't really believe in his heart that Terri Schiavo was worth saving. He had the power to misuse. He had the responsibility to follow the law. Third sentence; This is what happens when you elect silver-spoon rich kids to high office; they don't have the guts to put up a fight.Whats to deconstruct? This is again, your opinion.

Words like 'gutless wonder', and 'Barney Fife Pinellas Park cops' and 'cowardly' and 'guts' and 'Terry worth saving' scream out feelings. Feelings, emotions, same thing. I find your post #7 to be a fine example of an emotional post.

OK....you don't have a problem with the list.

Your post #9

Some idiots hold Jeb reponsible, and claim to hold the repub's feet to the fire for it. What misplaced idiocy.

Do you want to elaborate? I'm reading the post and, blonde as I may be at times, thinking that it is your opinion that anyone who would hold Repubs responsible as idiots.

While I'm not sure at this point that I would agree with Grunt on everything I do think that your comment about Charlie dropping a coconut on his head is completely uncalled for. He served his country and does deserve the respect that the sacrifice has earned him.

I must say that maybe we can't always judge by the length of time someone has been "on the board". I lurked for over a year before I ever signed up.

Even if the poster in question was a multiple retread, it doesn't make the posters on this thread who were arguing with him any better. They spend most of their time on these threads trolling, and one in particular has a tough time posting at all without smacking around conservatives.

Well I'm still waiting for a letter in my mailbox.

Sigh...

I hate calling his office, I really do! If you are calling with a contrary opinion about anything, you are in for it!

This is my rundown of 4/28/05

I called King's office to ask who is included in his "others like Terri" group.

That gal in his office is a piece of work to say the least.
She first said she assumed that it was people who are braindead and left no wishes. Then when I said I wanted to know for sure she said she was sure that's who it was. She wanted to know the link for the article I quoted from cause she didn't recall that and they've printed almost all the articles from the past 2 months.

I said it was disputed that Terri was brain dead, then she went to the court has ruled...like a Felos repeat imo. I said the court also "never" ruled on motion to remove Michael as guardian because of conflict of interest and under 38.10 a judge should recuse himself if asked. She said that's up to the judges discretion whether to stay on a case and she said the conflict of interest on guardians isn't in the statutes.

I told her I want to hear exactly who he includes in that group of folks like Terri and told her I have elderly friends nervous they could have their feeding removed because their medicaid costs got too high. She said oh really the Jacksonville Council of Elder Affairs was just there and they support Sen King on that issue and on medicaid reform. ARGH!

So now I have to chase down the Elder Affairs office here to verify that info.

Want your nerves plucked? Just call King's office sometime, that will do the job.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I spoke with a gentlemen in the Jax Elder Affairs and asked about whether they supported King's vote on Terri and Medicaid reform. He knew nothing of it and said to his knowledge they haven't received any request for support of a candidate or an issue. He said maybe the Elder Affairs on the state level have made such statements but he did not know if they had. The boss is in Tally today and he told me I could call back tomorrow. I told him about King's quote about "people like Terri" and how King's statements end up all around Florida and 'not' in his district. He asked me to email it to their office so he can let his boss know. I told him my older friend at church is concerned whether older folks are included in King's group of others like Terri.

Awww, come on, didn't I elaborate enough with the other fella?

I'll try a different tack. I want conservatives to win elections. Not rinos, not liberals, and not extremists. In my opinion, extremists scare the middleground. The middleground are not moderates, they are the middle and they are all over the place within the middle. If the middleground can vote with us, we can win. If we can win, we can affect change. If we can affect change we can restore the courts to a constitutional direction.

Elaborate? Hold these people's feet to the fire, they are local politicos and need to be held accountable. But to use this emotional issue to tar all republicans, Jeb, and the national republicans, is just wrong, and counterproductive to our desire to win elections and to affect change. Did I do any better that time?

So did I. As I've suggested a couple of times today, we must make each of our posts bespeak our character. We must desire that each of our posts exemplifies our character and not demonstrate our lack of character. Or not, just sayin' ...

There were about 5 legal briefs written and sent to Gov Bush which detailed to him that he did have legal authority. I'm trying to google for them now, I don't recall which site they were posted on.

Sorry, I know you don't like corresponding with me, but ...

Would you like cheese with your whine? I don't slap around conservatives, I do slap around rightwing extremists. I'm on record as saying I've come to the realization that rightwing extremists are worse than liberals. They are on the same damaging par as leftwing extremists.

This is a hoot, considering your track record here:

"As I've suggested a couple of times today, we must make each of our posts bespeak our character. We must desire that each of our posts exemplifies our character and not demonstrate our lack of character."

A perusal through your posts over a long period of time will illuminate anyone as to your sincerity.

Being the most vocal does not make you the majority.
Your perception of the middleground is skewed. While you claim them courage-less, they are the majority. It is my wish that we capture the middleground. If we can do that we can affect 'the senators who are giving us so much trouble'. Sometimes I feel as if the right-fringe would be happier losing than mediating with the middleground.

Still happy with 'the middleground'?

Think it's good to 'mediate with the middleground'??

I'm sure you do.

Isn't that spamming? Regardless, I stand by my post. You still don't understand the difference between moderate (a political position) and the middleground (the mass of Americans who are all over the place politically).

Yep, EVie, I stand by each and every post I ever made to you.

Spin it however you want, grunt, but you regularly insult conservatives and what they stand for.

It's your thing.

Wrong! Deceitful, even. I do regularly insult rightwing extremists, and I'm sick of their rants and faux indignation. Afterall, rightwing extremists are every bit as deluded as leftwing extremists.

Yep, insulting extremists is my thing. Its a tough job, but someone has to do it.

Yes you did better 8^)

I guess I wasn't fully ingesting the posts between you and the newly banned sawdust. I'm trying to find those legal briefs and back and forth between several windows.

I got so aggravated with Jim King, not just about Terri, about a year ago I started emailing the local media with quotes and links from other Florida news sources but none of them would print it with the exception of a one liner in a long article about long staff hours for the legislators staff.

After some research I understood a bit of why and the main station in town gave to his last campaign. So I decided that I would do my best to get the word out on my own. I made a site and am trying to get more Floridians involved so that we can share articles from around the state because if King is running his mouth every place but his district maybe others are too and we can help each other hold them accountable. I've printed little business cards with the site address on them and I give them to folks when I'm out. Someone else had the idea for the bumper stickers. Thing is, this is going to take a lot of effort without the media's involvement to spread the word and honestly at times it's discouraging.

Jim King has been around a long time. His campaign contributors are evidence of the foothold he has in politics. I think the best strategy is to discourage him from running because I think others won't want to run against him because of his contributors.

I was going to say something about what you're saying about the middleground being afraid of the extremes but I've lost my train of thought and can't remember what I was going to say! 8^(
