Gun maker Colt expands use of Stuart firm's coating

A Stuart company's "Greaseless Gun" is going global, under an exclusive deal with gun giant Colt Defense LLC.
Universal Chemical Technologies Inc., an upstart metal-finishing company, developed the 3-year-old greaseless technology, a coating patented in September that eliminates the need for liquid lubricants in guns.
Colt first tapped the Treasure Coast firm last year, using its coatings in rifles supplied to U.S. military troops. West Hartford, Conn.-based Colt now plans to use the technology in the development of all of its weapons, including those for law enforcement and commercial sales.
"They see now the global opportunity," said Thomas Dyer, president of Universal Chemical, which has 42 employees. "We're delighted to be partnered with a brand like Colt, which has such history."
Colt Defense a descendant of the company built by Samuel Colt in the early 1800s whose famed Colt revolver is credited for how the West was won said the coatings could change the way weapons, from pistols to machine guns, are built and maintained.
"UCT's innovative thinking and applied technology will allow us to introduce a new generation of easily maintained weapons for all elements of the small-arms market," Colt President William Keys said in a statement.
Slick.
How is this different from NP3, Rogard, and a bunch of other finishes?
This one has a fresh press release.
Ditto that. I wonder if it is one of the new "diamond coatings". I read a short reserach blurb from (I think it was) Sandia labs--touting a new method of diamond coating the had one of the lowest coefficients of friction known---much "slipperier" than Teflon, was "water clear", and imparted excellent corrosion resistance to the final coated parts.
Carbon deposited as a gas will do it. Not trivial to do, but apperently it works.
I cleaned my .45 just last night. I love the smell of that nitro solvent and gun oil. But anything that helps the soldier in the field, especially with a dirty M16, is an improvement.
I want to know if I can put it on my bike chain. Having that be greaseless would be a boon indeed!
Chains are already fairly efficient, I've seen IR captures of a chain running over a drive gear and sprocket. Really interesting stuff. Dry film would be nice on a chain drive...
My .45 and AR-15 all have the horse on it. Others are just immitations.
Yes.
Imitations of ARMALITE!!!
Colt Kool-Aid drinkers UNITE!!!
Hoppe's bump !
Imitations of ARMALITE!!!
Go back and read your hisory. Colt bought the rights FROM ARMALITE back back before the Viet Nam war. That means Colt is NOW the origional.
I don't think you're very clear on the definition of "original" ;)
Armalite was the first.
They sold the patent rights to Colt, which made Colt the second manufacturer.
The patent rights expired, so no anybody can make the AR-series.
Good luck getting anything decent from Colt, nowadays.
You have to lie and cheat to get new LE-model carbines from Colt. I can call any other manufacturer and get the same (or better) within a week. Colt's policies are killing its presence in the civilian market and nobody's noticing (surely not Bushmaster or ArmaLite).
Stoner.
I like my DPMS. The cat logo looks kinda cool and the thing is dead nuts accurate.
DPMS uses the panther in its logo.
It does look pretty cool.
There's a new manufacturer who's using the old "Thundercats" logo (very close to it). Hella cool.
Don't really care for the "My Little Pony" logo.
Well, that's a pretty good one-sentence description of how they make the diamond films, too.
Colts AR factory triggers suck and they're incredibly overpriced for what you get. The Rock River came out of the box with a two stage match trigger.
I got essentially the same rifle with a better trigger for $500.00 less than the Colt.
I've fired ARs from multiple manufacturers and IMO the RRA is the best value for the $.
Just my two cents, your mileage may vary.
