I'm sure the news department at ABC would just love for air travel to be just for the elites the way it was prior to deregulation.

Here is the full title. It wouldn't fit in the Free Republic's 100 character limit.
Low-Cost Airfare May Mean Longer Delays

I remember the days when flying was something special, and people actually dressed up to travel.
Later, people dressed down...
Now, I think that any time I have to fly, I'm going to wear nothing by sweat pants, a tee shirt, and flip flops, carrying only my drivers license to get through security with a minimum hassle.

Am I concerned about the fact that our system is just about at capacity and all the flights are full? You mean all those parked airplanes and dropped flights might have to be put back in service? You mean the airlines might have to re-hire all the laid off air-crews?

Oh woe! Air travel should remain a luxury for the well-heeled. It offends the senses to have Joe and Jane Six Pack gasp!> take advantage of low cost air travel. The great unwashed just inconvenience every one else's summer plans and we all know who the legacy media means. ;-)

Wait, I thought Harry Reid said everyone had cancelled their vacations, being that they were too busy in soup line, and all.

the one-way fare dropped from $328 to $54. The number of passengers skyrocketed in three months from 10,000 to more than 100,000, according to the DOT. What they are complaining about is that SWA is arbitraging the bad deals their comeptitors made when they assumed the government would cover their asses forever while they rape us to cover their bad deals.

There was time also when airlines made money. If every seat is filled and they still lose money then what's up with that?
I certainly liked it better when I could get a hot breakfast on a two hour flight. I liked it better when passengers wore closed toe shoes, long pants, shirts with collars, socks, were groomed, were bathed, were civilized so the experience was at a minimum, tolerable.
If the airlines continue to lose money on the cattle car model it will be just a matter of time until the more civil amongst us will be the predominate passenger again.

Air travel was never for the elites as far as I'm concerned.
I flew many commercial flights in the fifties and I was far from elite.
It was a delightful experience then, unlike today.

This summer, 200 million passengers are expected to fly -- up 4 percent from last year -- according to the Department of Transportation. Already this year, one in every four flights is delayed with wait times averaging 52 minutes. The bright side of this is the anticipated flying public is up 4%.
If it were to be the opposite, I have no doubt that the "doom and gloom" headline would be "Do to the declining Bush economy, many are staying home because of their concerns of unemployment".

So, exactly how do more people flying equal longer delays? The planes are scheduled; if everyone is at the gate on time, the plane leaves on time and if you're late, you get left.

For example, when Southwest Airlines started servicing Philadelphia and began flying to Providence, R.I., the one-way fare dropped from $328 to $54.What is that, a 30-minute flight? That $328 was subsidizing a lot of other routes.

I got a good question for everyone.... once a airframe has reached it's end of it's service life and is no more air worthy and gets placed either in the bone yard out in the desert or scraped , how come that aluminum can't be recycled again for air plane parts ?
I head that they recycle the aluminum for soda or beer cans or other aluminum uses, but, I heard that it can't be used for airplanes anymore ... is that true ? correct ?
