AOL (America On-Line): You could pave the nation with the free discs these people send out, call 1-800-605-4297 (24 hours a day) to get off the list. Tell them your first name is "current", last name "resident".

Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes: You can get the Clearinghouse to stop clogging your mailbox by contacting customer service at 1-800-645-9242 (8:30 am to 8:30 EST), sending a fax to 1-800-453-0272, mailing to 101 Channel Drive, Port Washington, NY 11050, or you can send email to pch@ant.net. PCH will remove any number of names from a specific address, but you have to list each name exactly and insist nicely.

American Family Sweepstakes: Ed McMahon and Dick Clark will stop telling you "You have definitely won 11 million dollars (maybe) " if you call them at 1-800-237-2400. AFP is a division of Time-Warner.

Local business & supermarket fliers: All mailings must be identified, by postal regulations. Each lose-leaf bundle of fliers, by postal regulations, must be delivered at the same time as an address card. Locate this address card; the cards usually have an advertisement and a photograph of a missing child. Call directory assistance to get the phone number of the sender, and call to get off the list:

ADVO (Mail comes with pictures of missing children). Call 1-860-285-6100 to get off the list. You may have to send a postcard to "ADVO Consumer Assistance, POB 249, Windsor CT 06095-4176".

Val-Pak Coupons: You must fax the envelope to 508-626-9925 or mail it to 1661 Worcester Rd, Framingham MA 01701. Val-Pak may be contacted at 1-800-676-6878.

Carol Wright Call 1-800-67-TARGET to get off the list. Your local newspaper & supermarket (look for a phone number on the piece).

LOL
I have a much better ways with dealing with both:

Snail Mail:
If junk snail mail it immediately goes into a trash can,
Most times, if I am in a bad mood I will put junk mail in their return envelope and mail it back to them..

Phone calls:
They can listen to what I listen to. Simply place the phone receiver close to the radio or TV. Then they can listen to Rush, Sean or maybe even Judge Judy

Main thing is to keep them wasting their money.......

Donate $50 to the Gay Men's Health Crisis fund in their name. Use their work address as a return address, within 6 weeks they'll be getting ads for leatherwear from Denmark at work.

Not that I ever did anything like that.

Get this one...Last night when I came home from my evening out, there was a message on my answering machine asking for me, by name. They said they were from the ATM fraud division of Union Bank (My bank) and they were investigating unusual activity on my ATM card. They gave an 800 number to call back. Right away I was suspicious, as the guy left a first name and an extension number. When I called back I pushed the extension number (at 11:00PM) and this guy answered by name! He asked me for my ATM number right off the bat. I told him I knew this was bull and I was going to call the police. I went ahead and called my bank and as I suspected this was a scam. I was so pissed off. More pissed off because they asked for me by name.

Here's the way I do it:

Garbage can close to mailbox.
Discard all junk mail into garbage can..
Trash collectors will take care of the rest.

I've always cut up the disks and obliterated the passwords, because I'm afraid some jerk will set up an account in my name. It's just a real hassle, so I'd like to know how to make them stop in the first place.

Hey, I actually wouldn't mind hearing from Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes but they never send me any entries probably because I haven't ordered anything in well over a decade.
