AOL (America On-Line): You could pave the nation with the free discs these people send out, call 1-800-605-4297 (24 hours a day) to get off the list. Tell them your first name is "current", last name "resident".

Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes: You can get the Clearinghouse to stop clogging your mailbox by contacting customer service at 1-800-645-9242 (8:30 am to 8:30 EST), sending a fax to 1-800-453-0272, mailing to 101 Channel Drive, Port Washington, NY 11050, or you can send email to pch@ant.net. PCH will remove any number of names from a specific address, but you have to list each name exactly and insist nicely.

American Family Sweepstakes: Ed McMahon and Dick Clark will stop telling you "You have definitely won 11 million dollars (maybe) " if you call them at 1-800-237-2400. AFP is a division of Time-Warner.

Local business & supermarket fliers: All mailings must be identified, by postal regulations. Each lose-leaf bundle of fliers, by postal regulations, must be delivered at the same time as an address card. Locate this address card; the cards usually have an advertisement and a photograph of a missing child. Call directory assistance to get the phone number of the sender, and call to get off the list:

ADVO (Mail comes with pictures of missing children). Call 1-860-285-6100 to get off the list. You may have to send a postcard to "ADVO Consumer Assistance, POB 249, Windsor CT 06095-4176".

Val-Pak Coupons: You must fax the envelope to 508-626-9925 or mail it to 1661 Worcester Rd, Framingham MA 01701. Val-Pak may be contacted at 1-800-676-6878.

Carol Wright Call 1-800-67-TARGET to get off the list. Your local newspaper & supermarket (look for a phone number on the piece).

these enemies aren't worth US$50 a pop to do something like that. (although, we DID have an outbreak of laserprinted "I [heart symbol] NAMBLA" bumper stickers a while ago - not that I know much about it) :D

Another thing I hate is those effing inconvenient "convenience checks" I get every month from various banks/credit cards. I've ALREADY GOT A CHECKBOOK, you morons! You can't just throw them out since they are useable. When I have the time, I am going to figure out how to stop those.

BTW, I've always liked the town of Effingham (Illinois?). Lovely name. Is that what you say when you return something to the Honey Baked store? "This Effingham tastes terrible!"

Just call your credit card company (toll free number right on the back of your card) and ask them to please stop sending you marketing mail. You can also ask them not to sell, rent, or share your personal info with any other companies.

To stop receiving credit card offers: "The major credit agencies all sell aggregate credit information any bidder. Direct mail and credit companies generate mail based on demographics including zip code, income band and credit payment patterns. Stopping this is easy, you just need your address, former address within two years, and social security number. One call does it all for agencies Equifax, Trans Union, Experian and Innovis. Dial 1-888-5 OPT OUT (or 1-888-567-8688) 24 hours a day."

I use to put the phone in front of my guitar amp and turn it up REALLY loud and play something grungy....

We now have a studio and my amp is no longer in the house...maybe I need this as an excuse to buy that new Fender amp I've been eyeing...

hehehehe

For unwanted phone calls I usually just slip the Rolling Stones "Hey You Get Off My Cloud" into the stereo and let 'er rip.

I like it...I think if you don't mind I will steal your idea. I use a Marshall 100, add a little Jimmi feedback just might do the trick
That fender amp I like the cyber twin myself.... http://www.fender.com/

heh! That's one way to do it. Here's how to stop marketing phonecalls permanently:

(copied from http://www.obviously.com/junkmail/ )

Federal law prohibits telemarketers from "Initiating an outbound telephone call to a person when that person previously has stated that he or she does not wish to receive an outbound telephone call made by or on behalf of the seller whose goods or services are being offered.". You may simply interrupt the telemarketer and say "Please permanently remove me from your calling list". Remember that they just interrupted you. If the same people call back, they are violating the law. Ask them for their company name, supervisor name and phone number. If you wish to quote Federal law to the telemarketer, you may read it at Federal Trade Commission: Telemarketing Sales Rule - http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/tsrcomp.htm

You can register at the National Do Not Call Registry: https://www.donotcall.gov
Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at the Do Not Call website. You can register your home or mobile phone for free. Your registration will be effective for five years.

Go ahead! This is an idea that popped into my head one day when I was jamming and the phone rang, instead of hanging up like I normally do, I just plopped the phone in front of my amp! It was actually kind of inspiring at the time!

What kind of guitar do you have? Right now I'm jamming on a telecaster of my neighbors. Her uncle is Noki (sp?) Edwards of The Ventures, and this is her Dad's guitar (wish it was Nokis!). Still a VERY SWEET guitar. Never have been into Fenders, but this guitar is changing my mind! First guitar I have ever played where I can feel the vibrations from the strings through the neck well enough to tune by FEEL rather than EAR (which I admit I'm not very good at...) Now I feel like going out and jamming, instead of Freeping!

Thanks
I have a few. Been using a 1969 Fender Strat mostly, I also have a 1973 Guild Starfire V and a 1977 Gibson Les Paul Custom.
How long you been playing and types of music you play

When my kids were toddlers and I got junk phone calls, I would say, "Just a minute," and hand the phone to one of the kids, saying, "It's for you."

The problem is it doesn't stop non-profit organizations, and there are a 4377 of a lot of them out there.

Well....I'm 40 now, started playing at 14, so that makes 26 years! AAAGGGHHH!!! I should be MUCH BETTER than I am after all these years. Could be that my hubby sidetracked me into playing bass for quite a while...

Anyway, started out playing rock and roll. Saw Nancy Wilson playing that guitar on a Saturday Night Live appearance and that was all she wrote! I wanted to do what SHE was doing. Now I play all sorts of things, whatever I like. Really into bluegrass (Alison Krauss, Gillian Welch, etc.), but still like to turn it up and play some Bad Co., or whatever. I guess you could say I play everything from Alice in Chains to Alison Krauss!

How 'bout you? I think we need an official Freeper band...
