George Bush, the president's father, would like to see another Bush in the White House someday, saying on Tuesday that he would want his son Jeb to run for president when the timing is right.
Florida Governor Jeb Bush has repeatedly said he does not plan to run for president in 2008, trying to dampen speculation that another Bush could be on the next Republican ticket for the White House.
In an interview on CNN's "Larry King Live," former President Bush said he would want Jeb to run for president "someday," but now was not the time.
"The timing's wrong. The main thing is, he doesn't want to do it. Nobody believes that," Bush said.
But he and wife Barbara both said they believed Jeb, 52, did not want to run in the next presidential race.
Bush said he did not have a favorite candidate for the Republican nomination to succeed his son, President Bush.
Barbara Bush said she believed Senator and former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton would be the Democratic nominee in the 2008 presidential race. "I'm not going to vote for her, but I'm betting on her," she said.

Someone once told me that since the 1952 Presidential Election there has always been a Nixon or a Bush or a Dole on the Republican ticket with the exception of the 1964 LBJ landslide over Goldwater/Miller.

After all that fuss you went through to get rid of a different George a long time ago I would have thought it prudent for you to avoid monachies, dynasties or any other 'Keep it in the families'. There are several hundred million citizens in the world's baecon of democracy - it stretches belief to think that the best three leaders over a 20 year period should come from one family kitchen table....
Fortunatley I don't think we'll be copying the trend over on this side of the pond. Mark 'thicky' Thatcher couldn't 'organize a coup in equitorial guineau', and James Major couldn't stay married to a glamour model (both must leave their parents spinning). The jury is out on Ewan Blair as he is only about 20 so we should be spared for at least another two decades!
How sad it is that this point will ride over so many heads.
The Bush stench, what with their cozying up to Sh%#head Clinton and Mrs. Sh%#head, letting Sandy Berger skate, plus all the usual Big Government crap they keep dumping on us - is really starting to reek. And I'm getting pretty tired of all the Bush apologists as well.
The Nixon/Bush/Dole streak could continue in 2008 if either Governor Jeb Bush of Florida, or Senator Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina would be on the Republican ticket as either President or Vice-President candidates.
Historical oddity, or **dun-dun-dun** a Republican conspiracy to go to with the name recognition that would make a Chamber of Commerce happy...

NO! Hell no! They're done. Period. We've had enough Bush - they've simply accelerated the grasping politicians' grip on Big Stupid Government and stolen hundreds of billions more taxpayer dollars to enrich themselves, their friends and to prop up a failing welfare state.

Well gosh! And I thought it was Terri's husband, lawyer, and the judge who insisted on pulling the feeding tube on Terri? How is Jeb Bush being blamed for her dear husband, his lawyer, and a judge's actions? I'm sorry but no, I can't follow your line of reasoning, and blame the Gov. for their actions!
Am I missing something? I thought Jeb intervened a couple of times. One time was when he got a law passed, that actually kept her alive at least an extra year! For crying-out-loud!! Who do you think Jeb is, Superman? Surely you didn't expect him to be a dictator, did you? He's not a puppeteer either, he can't control the murderous husbands, lawyers, and judges, can he?
No, he's not omnipotent, he's not God either, he's only a mere man! We've gotten to such a point in this country, where judges are snatching powers that they don't rightly have. The governor isn't responsible for the judges, is he? Isn't there a thing called 'separation of powers'?
So, Jeb doesn't have the right of every citizen to run for president because he is related to two of them? And don't people that support him have a right to vote for him for president, because of above reason?
Do you advocate taking others rights to run for an office, or support someone running for office, merely because they are related to a president? Would you have said this to JQAdams, Benjamin Harrison, or FDRoosevelt, just because they were related to a president?
Also, many people are not aware that Barbara Bush is related/descended from Franklin Pierce. With the logic of some regarding the Bushes, that would've made both GHWB, GWB, and Jeb all part of a political dynasty, therefore they shouldn't have run/won the presidency!
Uh, do you have the right to decide that? Maybe you don't want him because he's part of a 'dynasty', as you say. But that doesn't mean you can keep others from supporting him for president, or that he can't run! As long as he is eligible, that is!
In this country, they have to run for office just like anyone else. That doesn't mean he'll win! In a real 'royal family', they pass the job down in most cases. The people don't get to vote, they don't get a call. So, what's the problem?
Jeb has a right to run for President if he wants to. And voters have a right to vote for him or not as they see fit. I just think it's not the greatest idea for the country or the GOP to make it the Presidency a semi-hereditary office. Three members of the same immediate family in twenty years is a bit much, IMV.
If Jeb runs in 2008, I suspect a lot of people will vote against him or stay home for that very reason. In a close race it might be enough to make a difference. But I think he's smart enough to realize that. I don't think he'll run next time.
I'm also a little surprised to see all the positive comments about Jeb. A few weeks ago he was a pariah on FR due to the Shiavo situation. I guess memories can be short.

In my previously posted analogy I said that Jeb Bush could see a child drowning in a lake that has sign that was posted by a judge that says "no swimming" and he would point to that sign and say "sorry, the judge said I can't jump in". So the kid drowns.
I'm not blaming Jeb Bush for the actions of lawyers, judges or anyone else. I'm simply pointing out that he did not act. As the govenor he had the power to have her forcebly removed from the place and protected. She was a citizen of his state and she was being killed. He could have picked any of several reasons out of a hat. Or none and just did the right thing.
Jeb Bush had to decide whether another human life was worth gambling his own political one. Jeb would not "jump on the live grenade" so to speak to save the other person. You can blame that on lawyers or judges or whoever else you like but when it came down to doing the decent and manly thing in my view Jeb Bush failed. That's not the kind of leader I want. I want someone that can rise above the rest and when all is against him do the right thing no matter where the chips fall.
