My great-great grandparents lived a long and happy life together. Her father died during the initial assault on Petersburg (Confederate) and his father was a staunch Unionist who smuggled blacks, Union soldiers and confederate deserters behind enemy lines.
They had quite a network set up. Although I have not yet run across her name, I would not be surprised if this was part of "Crazy Bet's" operation.
My family got over it...but then again, they weren't using it for power.
I was a bit taken aback when I saw the flag on the klan robe. Yes, the Klan put it there...I understand. But as someone who has a rich, southern heritage I am tired of being the nation's perpetual "bad seed."
