LIVE THREAD: Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Guantanamo detainees..C-span 3..
C-span 3

Posted on 06/15/2005 7:41:50 AM PDT by ken5050

Didn't see a thread started yet, and not sure if there's enough interest, or access..but thought I'd start one. The Senate Judiciary Committee's early Christmas gift to the Dems, courtesy of Arlen Specter..a hearing on the Gitmo detainees, is now (10:30am) in recess for a floor vote...It should resume about 11 am or so. Follow along, if able, or inclined, whenever, and post comments if you will...

FYI.The hearing started at 8:30am. I didn't see any of it, aso if anyone did, and can give us a brief precis of whta happened, much appreciated....

Also, perhaps someone can post links for C-span 3 on the web, for the cubicle bound....

The Dems are going to wet their panties today. I hope some GOP senator lays into them, especially Leahy and Durbin. They are both beyond shameless. IMHO, it's now at the level of "aid and comfort to the enemy"

Sure....
DURBIN:When you read some of the graphic descriptions of what has occurred here--I almost hesitate to put them in the RECORD, and yet they have to be added to this debate. Let me read to you what one FBI agent saw. And I quote from his report:

On a couple of occasions, I entered interview rooms to find a detainee chained hand and foot in a fetal position to the floor, with no chair, food or water. Most times they urinated or defecated on themselves, and had been left there for 18-24 hours or more. On one occasion, the air conditioning had been turned down so far and the temperature was so cold in the room, that the barefooted detainee was shaking with cold. ..... On another occasion, the [air conditioner] had been turned off, making the temperature in the unventilated room well over 100 degrees. The detainee was almost unconscious on the floor, with a pile of hair next to him. He had apparently been literally pulling his hair out throughout the night. On another occasion, not only was the temperature unbearably hot, but extremely loud rap music was being played in the room, and had been since the day before, with the detainee chained hand and foot in the fetal position on the tile floor.

If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime--Pol Pot or others--that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners.

Thats accceptable treatment of a TERRORIST. Getting information from a TERRORIST involves psychiatric methods.

Kennedy says that Gitmo is an example of how bad our human rights abuses ARE--and that we can't prove to Muslims all over the world how good we are with Gitmo open...

Gitmo, need to be closed---

Kennedy just doesn't get it, that he is directly insulting the troops, not Bush---it is the troops that run these facilities...

CHECKS AND BALANCES, SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER, ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPT ABSOLUTELY...

Cliche man...

He and Biden don't ask questions, in order to learn anything, the just give speeches...
