Woman punished for being raped by father-in-law
Wednesday, June 15, 2005 (Muzaffarnagar):
Twenty eight-year-old Imrana had sought justice when she complained of rape by her father in law Mohammad Ali.
Instead, the panchayat dissolved her marriage to her husband Noor.
The head of a local Islamic court, which will hear her case on Friday, has also said that Imrana can never remarry her husband, as she is now symbolically his mother.
Meanwhile, her father-in-law has been arrested and will be produced in court on Thursday.
Shocking allegations
The maulvis also said Imrana must have invited the attack, and both she and her father-in-law must be made an example and severely punished.
Shattered, Imrana still says she will respect the Shariat's decision.
Many privately say this is not the first time Mohammad Ali has sexually assaulted a daughter-in-law. In previous cases, his other sons moved away with their families instead of complaining.
Shocked at Imrana's predicament, the National Commission for Women has decided to intervene and asked the Uttar Pradesh government to present a report within the next seven days.
'No authority'
Meanwhile, contradicting the diktat of the local Muslim leaders, a member of the Muslim Personal Law Board has said the Shariat law gives a panchayat no right to decree a divorce.
Zafareyab Gilani, the MPLB member, also said the matter was one between a husband and wife.
He said if Imrana's husband had not given her talaq, the marriage remained intact.
He added that rape is a "criminal offence", and under Islamic law Mohammad Ali would face a death penalty. He said Imrana could not be victimised.
NOW, Planned Parenthood and feminists all over the world are outraged and marching in protest and demanding equality and justice. Hillary leads the march!!!
Oh wait, I was dreaming and I just woke up.
Yeah, really! women are free game. Disgusting, aren't they!
Of course under Shariah law, the rape must be WITNESSED by 4 males. Otherwise the woman is guilty of adultery and can be stoned to death. Nice touch eh?
Protect a book more than their women, I have no idea what drives thinking like this. The only thing that makes sense is they fancy themselves cave men who can do as they wish.
And their livestock
Gotta love the 'Religion of Peace'
They're not home? No problem, I'll page them for you.
Paging AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL ..... Paging AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL................................{crickets}
"The head of a local Islamic court...has also said that Imrana can never remarry her husband, as she is now symbolically his mother."
I thought all the people referring to these savages as "motherf***kers" were just being mean, not recognizing the cultural nuances involved.
Guess I had it all backwards.
Please tell me again where, exactly, are the voices of protest of the so called "Women's Rights" advocates?
/sarcasm
Don't you wonder how they've gotten away with it for so many CENTURIES? What a bunch of heathens.
It doesn't take alot to be morally superior to this, if you can breath unassisted you are morally superior to these people.
so a guy raping his daughter-in-law has never happened here in the U.S. and it is solely due to their religion?
i agree their justice "system" needs to be secularized but crimes happen here just as they happen there.
(don't tell me to go back to DU just because i'm a conservative that accepts the fact that the U.S. has crime too)
No, but a court wouldn't dissolve the victim's marriage because 'she was asking for it', while letting the perp walk free.
Exactly we'll use Florida as your example, but it's people like you who want to excuse it away, and then turn around and some how manage to blame America for the worlds problems that's the difference. We Americans don't blame other countrys for our faults. I know there is crime in this country, but to punish the victim like this has no logic what so ever. As Bush put it these people are backwards.
> it's people like you who want to excuse it away, and then
> turn around and some how manage to blame America for the
> worlds problems
ok. sure. and you've read all my prior posts to come to that conclusion.
there is nothing excusable about the way they treat women over there. but i don't see why these rape/blame-the-victim stories make worldwide headlines. it is the way it is, not just there but the majority of the rest of the world could be considered "less just" than the U.S.
if unjust treatment of rape and rape victims is the big issue then i'd say south africa has a much worse problem than pakistan.
imagine if every reported rape story in the United States made national headlines.
I missed your point there, apparently we will just agree to disagree with no solution in site. But I will not blame America first.
