Today: Katie Couric MIA - Could this be Beginning of End?
The Today Show | governsleast governsbest

Could something be up at The Today Show?

The show has been hit with successive waves of bad news. First, falling ratings as Good Morning America with Diane Sawyer narrows the gap and even beats Today in some markets. Next, a series of articles painting Katie Couric as a self-centered prima donna at war with Matt Lauer and responsible for the axing of various show execs.

Katie missed a few shows last week, and granted, that's not unusual. The show explained she was "on assignment," and perhaps she was. But this morning, Katie was missing again, and this time there was no explanation, just Campbell Brown in her seat. For that matter, Ann Curry, Today's regular news reader, was also out, though in her case it was stated that she was "on assignment."

Could something be up? We'll be watching.

By the way, the final segment of the first half-hour focused on Joe Biden effectively throwing his hat into the ring over the weekend for the Democratic presidential nomination.

It's just my opinion, but given Biden's personal history, I'm not sure his announcement line was necessarily the best move: "I'm Joe Biden, and I'm reporting for duty." ;-)

Any chance that Katie might run away permanently?

I'm afraid you're right. But we'll remain on the Couric Career-end Watch.

That interview was conducted days or even weeks ago. It's taped and edited....60 minutes style.

"Jennifer, have you considered the possibility that your decision to run away reflected the prevailing hopelessness in the country as a result of the disastrous policies of the Bush administration?"

LOL! LOL! LOL! Best laugh of the morning!

I believe there is an unprintable name for those kind of strappy high-heels.

Come F Me Pumps (CFMPs)...and trashy is not the adjective I'd use. ;^)

Hmm, so if the Runaway Bride interview was conducted some time ago, it wouldn't explain Katie's absence this morning. Maybe there really is something to the story. Then again, I'm sure the Wilbanks interview is considered a major 'get' in the industry, so that would be very unlikely timing for letting her go.

Well, she seems as self-obsessed as ever based on what you say, and when that trait is combined with a just-above-room-temperature IQ, watch out...

My guess was she was out helping Hillary prepare for 2008.

Isn't she on assignment interviewing the runaway bride? That's their big scoop this week - I must have seen them advertise it 1000 times this weekend.

That interview is in the can. She did it last week. There is no reason for her to be absent Today. I was wondering, though, why the scheduled that interview for release on Tuesday instead of Monday. It gives the other nets an invitation to scoop them. Maybe Queen Katie just doesn't do Mondays anymore. That would explain them spiking the Runaway Bride. (Hey, somebody's gotta do it!)

Of course, it could be that she rooted through her shoe closet this morning and did not find anything that struck her fancy, so she's spending Today shopping...

they'd be hard pressed to find a similar replacement that could breathe without illustrated instructions.

LOL!

Come F Me Pumps (CFMPs)...

I once heard the diceman speak of these.

Maybe someone will post a picture or 2 of them. I don't know what they look like.

The original ones were made by a company called Candies...leather mules with wooden heels about 3-1/2 inches in height.
