DAD SHRIEKS AT GRISLY FIND
New York Post ^ | June 25, 2005 | C. J. Sullivan

June 25, 2005 -- CAMDEN, N.J. — The father of a missing 6-year-old boy dropped to his knees and let out a blood-curdling scream after opening the trunk of a parked car last night to discover the body of his son and two young friends who had been missing since Wednesday.

The bodies of Jesstin "Manny" Pagan, 5; Daniel "Danny" Agosto, 6; and Anibal Cruz, 11 — who were last seen playing in a yard in this hard-luck suburb of Philadelphia — were found by Danny's father, David Agosto, shortly before 7 p.m. in the maroon Toyota Camry.

"Anibal's father told me that there was a plastic bag over his son's head," Anibal's babysitter, Nancy Santana, told The Post last night.

The death car belongs to Anibal's grandmother and had been parked in the driveway of the family's house throughout the three-day search for the boys in neighboring woodlands and the nearby Delaware River.

Hearing Agosto's anguished screams, family and friends frantically ran from a nearby porch where they had held a vigil hoping for a miracle. The grim discovery echoed across the community.

"This is a moment that the families and the city hoped and prayed we wouldn't have to face," said Camden County Prosecutor Vincent Sarubbi.

Last night, law enforcement officials declined to elaborate on their investigation, but said they were searching for Angel Martinez, 28, of Camden, as a "person of interest" in the case.

Sarubbi and Figueroa said the car had been searched on Thursday with a canine unit.

"We looked in the car on Thursday," an anguished neighbor, who did not want to be identified, told The Post.

"I can't believe we didn't look in the trunk."

There is no blueprint for this.... I am very slow to blame just so I can feel better because I'm mad at someone. Accidents are tragic, whether we can be mad at someone for them or not.

Good experiment, and the little boy who died just sitting in his carseat in a closed van, was Dead in 5 to 7 hrs later from Dehydration.

I don't know how the kids got in the trunk, or when the Mother realized they were gone in seconds, why she didn't hear them make a commotion in the trunk if she was outside looking for them?

I would consider this, did he run to the car or walk to the car to look inside? If he received a tip to that fact a world running speed record would have been established getting to the trunk to open it.

Why would someone want to dispose of the bodies that close to the house? I would have to say someone who wanted to get caught. The numbers just don't add up to me. NSNR

I don't know, hershey. Maybe there really wasn't a plastic bag over the boy's head and that was just rumor?

I was told last night that this model of car has a trunk release inside the drivers door..if the car was unlocked...it's a possibility that oe of the boys kew this..

The boys were 5, 6 and 11 with a mentality of a 4 year old. I can't say that I would think they would otherwise know this given their ages, kwim?

I do hope that the good officers in this area do think harder now than when they passed by the trunk with a dog, but didn't think to open the trunk.

Can you imagine having your child's life depend on these Homers?

You are entirely correct that more work is needed before any determination.

I had read that there was a plastic bag over the head of one of the victims.

If that is true, then this is not an accident.
However, if that information turns out to be wrong, then things may be different.

This is a bad design as it turns any unlocked car into an unused refrigerator type thing

Until this tragedy, I had never thought of that feature as a risk -- but, you are right!

OTOH, the latest models are supposed to include latch releases inside the trunk.

The truly sad thing is that most people don't know that the front of the luggage compartment (back of the rear seat) is notoriously weak on most cars. If you are ever locked in the trunk of a car, you can probably kick out the seat back -- and escape...

Which of these is close to Camden, NJ? Atlantic City, NJ 08401 Belleville

AC is closer. Belleville is about 10 miles away from NYC (I'm two towns over from Belleville) and Camden is in the southwestern portion of the state. Why do you ask?

I agree. And it fits with the level of competence of many other professionals in this event.

It means there WAS NO PLASTIC BAG !

One of the relatives apparently heard "suffocation" and assumed plastic bag.

Does that year and make of car have another way to open the door without a key????

I'm not sure. I just heard from a fellow team member that the news said that the trunk was not searched at all. As I said before, someone has a lot of explaining to do.

Hollywood zooms in on terrified children. And glorifies killing children. It's a form of advertising.

And advertising works. It's why companies pay millions of dollars for a few minutes on prime time, or to put a can of Pepsi on the a movie screen for 8 seconds.

The glorification of killing and sexually abusing children is an advertisement to misfits to go after our youngest and most innocent. And Hollyweird is doing it now. They're making the ads to have your children raped next... Ads in the forms of jokes, movies, and TV edgy crap. And the stuff is on the screen a lot longer than 8 seconds...

I agree with you about the need for total protection from the threat posed by those perverts; but believe that capitol punishment should be reserved for murders and treason.

One of the side effects of capitol punishment is that it is a political magnet and cash cow for lawyers and liberals. they have a power source because of that issue.

I don't like their mixing druggies, kidnappers and perverts in the same prison either. Keep them in a like population....they're learning too many things in those institutions of higher criminal learning.

I'm getting cynical in my old age.

Police Chief said it could take up to 30 days to check the logs to see if the trunk was checked or not

Hmmmm... I wonder why so long? When we want to check our logs, it takes about 2-3 minutes..... They have to think of a way to cover their behinds is my guess.
