But... But... If we let people treat their own pain, then someone might get high.Yep, and people that are high don't act in a rational manner. Plenty of news reports every day of people who did dumb or violent things while 'high'.

Exactly! That's why we need more zero tolerance laws. Anyone out there could be high! We need to find them and keep them in prison for life. And we need to use any means necessary to find everyone who has ever been high. Including throwing out the Bill of Rights.

Plenty of people who do dumb or violent things while sober, too. Should we outlaw being sober?

Much more of those violent crimes are committed by gangs over drug turf. Legalize drugs and you will defund the gangs. With no source of income, they will disband.

Drunk people do these things also, and I think prohibition was repealed because the government recognized the problems that were created by outlawing booze were much worse than the ones we had to deal with already. It's shocking to me how the government keeps repeating its mistakes over and over again. People who want to use, use regardless of legality. They do things to other people while they are high, or to get their next fix, like stealing. Just a few days ago someone was murdered for the iPod they were carrying. It does not matter if there are laws against it because there is no way we can lock everyone up who uses. The government can't do anything about it. The users, sellers, etc... who are locked up count for only a fraction of those who are still at large and we are left to be victimized over and over again in various ways.
