Police: Egg-Throwing Boy Killed

INDIANAPOLIS -- A prank may have cost a boy his life on Indianapolis' west side.

A group of four juveniles was throwing eggs at cars in the 7400 block of Rockville Road about 11 p.m. Sunday, according to police.

Marion County sheriff's deputies said after they hit one motorist in the face, the man got out and opened fire, shooting one 15-year-old boy in the leg and another 17-year-old boy in the stomach.

Police said the man who called them to report the egg-throwing may have been the same man involved in the shootings.

"The victim that was shot with the non-life-threatening injuries -- he actually went to a residence and called us -- called the sheriff's department," Marion County sheriff's Sgt. Michael DeHart said. "The other two were unaccounted for at the that time. They later regrouped at some location, became worried about the fourth member they had not heard from, and returned back to the site of the shooting and found him in the bushes."

The boy was dead when his friends found him. Investigators are still looking for the shooter.

He's described as a white male in his 30s, 6 feet tall. He was driving a maroon or red late 80s Ford full size pickup truck.

""Life is hard. It's harder if you're stupid...
ROTFLMAO!!! That would make a great poster in a classroom!"

My thoughts, exactly! (I even jotted it down in a notebook, for future inspiration.)

Sorry, but you've got it all bass ackwards. I carry a gun almost 24/7 these days. I don't carry it because I'm worried about people like these kids. I carry it because I'm more worried about the kind of nutbar that shot them.

That is by far the most intelligent post I have seen on this thread. Ya ought to get a medal....LOL

I think these 'children' are without fear and respect and he felt the need to deal with them more forcefully. You're a walkin, TALKIN, advocate AGAINST concealed carry.

No, what I am is an advocate for the right of self-defense.

The State does not give you that right, God does.

They threw a freakin' egg at the guy. He got mad and started shooting. These keyboard vigilantes around here have to start getting real. We don't even know if the kid who died was the egg thrower.

He was with the group wasn't he?

"And they would have done what?" Prevented a murder.

Not the murder of the next driver who got hit with an egg (or worse) and lost control of his vehicle.

you are making alot of assumptions of what happened when the man got out of the car. These youths have no fear or respect of authority and I doubt they ran until they saw the gun. The article has been updated, the guy drove off, then came back and started shooting. If a guy was mad at me and got out of a car with a gun I would darn well run too, whether I threw the egg or not. This was murder, not self defense, not justifiable in any way. I have driven on the road he was on, it is not a main road, but not a back street either. For all we know the guy could have been at a stopsign when it happened too.

Know the way to prevent this from happening again?

Don't throw eggs at people.

Well, if you did anything that endangered anyone's life, you are fortunate to be alive." According to the research, just driving with a cellphone to your ear can fall under that catagory now too.

And if you cause someone's death because of that irresponsible action, be prepared for the consquences.

In the updated later story the kids say that the guy left, and then came back later with a gun and opened fire. The street it happened on is not a highway, traffic doesn't get going that fast. The kid he killed was shot in the back, the other 15 year old was hit in the leg while running away. As far as the Hitler youth go, they were doing a little more than egging a car to get executed I bet.

First, shooting someone who is running away doesn't make it an illegitimate shooting.

Second, the point about the Hilter youth is that youth can be vicious and have to be dealt with accordingly.

According the account, he did not do that, but went back to the vehicle to get his weapon." "I think these 'children' are without fear and respect and he felt the need to deal with them more forcefully." So he had time to think about his actions before he decided to use a gun against them? Guess that falls into the "premeditated" category. He could have driven away, could have contacted the police. Could have, should have. Perhaps these kids were without fear and respect, but do you believe that that gave this man the right to shoot at them?

Yes, if they attempted to kill me.

I consider someone throwing an object at me while driving an act of violence that should be responded to.

Dude, it's the LAW. Cops might understand and sympathize, but don't trust the DA's office... they need the statistics. However, if you can't escape (i.e. you're in that corner), you can shoot. However, in the really whacko places (like the PRM), if you can get out of the house, you have to leave it to the looters (if they follow, you can shoot...). It varies from state to state. It helps if you know the laws. Can't say I'm all that knowledgable.

I am not disagreeing that States have those laws on the books, I am saying that those laws are immoral and if someone disobeys them, they may be legally wrong, but they are morally correct.

I think it criminal to throw anything at a moving car......and those doing it should be held accountable.

Held accountable yes, shot, hell no. That was vandalism and the kids should have had to pay a fine and the cost of getting it cleaned. This is not a capitol case and doesn't warrant the death penalty.

This shooter gives all of us licensed gun owners a bad name, and play right into the hands of the gun grabbers.

A guy that can't control himself better than that shouldn't be allowed to carry a fire arm

I agree.

In Spanaway Washington two twelve year olds were shooting bottle rockets at cars on a busy street. They had snuck out of their houses and were out at midnight. One driver and passenger did not take it lightly. They stopped their car and took off after the kids. One kid was caught and given a good beating. The other kid was chased into an oncoming car and killed. The two in the car took off and were later caught by the police. So far, there have been no charges brought against them.

To many folks here, as long as they're kids, they should get a free pass on such things, because "every kid does it."

Haven't seen anyone recommend a free pass, but just think being shot was a bit extreme.

As many as seven teenagers were throwing eggs at cars in the 7400 block of Rockville Road about 11 p.m. Sunday, according to police.

Where were the police when the egg throwing was going on by 7 teenagers?

I'm 54 years old, and when I was growing up, I can honestly say I never did anything like that. Having said that, what would have happened to me if I did would be the man in the car would have grabbed me, waylaid me good, taken me home to my father and my father would have offered payment for damages, if any, and then when the driver left, my father would have waylaid me and told me how much money I owed him, and how I was going to earn it.

Now the driver is afraid of the perps enough to shoot them, and the perps will end up suing the guy they terrorized, and most likely win.

Some have asked where the father was in all this,...I'll bet he doesn't know his father, and his mother is with his sister's father making a new brother. The police may find her in a day or two when she's out of crack money.

James Patterson was one of the boys involved in the egg-throwing incident. "I think they should find him (the shooter). I don't know where he is right now, but I hope he regrets what he did because he just shot a minor over some eggs," Patterson said. "He didn't have to take it to the extreme. He could've just called the cops. He didn't have to go home, get a gun and come back and shoot us."

Ofcourse, that is what these thugs expect you do to, because they do not fear the police, knowing they are underage and nothing will happen to them.

Definately a bit extreme, but I have to wonder if the guy deserves life in prison. He was being goaded, heavily. And 7 teenagers throwing eggs at a moving car is not just your average couple of kids egging a garage door in the middle of the night. 7 teens is pretty much a mob.

I think the guy is going to have to get some time for overreacting but it's hard for me to give him murder 1.

This entire situation never should have happened. 7 teens should never have been out at 11pm throwing eggs at moving cars, and neither should the driver have gotten so angry that he opened fire on the kids.

Ick. What a mess.

and throwing eggs at cars are seperate things. Kids that throw eggs at cars should get community service, not a bullet in the gut.

I don't recall saying that they're the same. In fact I said that the guy should be charged with manslaughter; however, most of the incidents leading to injuries and death sustained by drivers when young thugs hit their cars started with the thugs throwing something small and then getting larger and larger missiles when they didn't do enough damage to satisfy the creeps.

Bet the youths involved in this particular egg-toss won't do it again.

well the dead one won't, but the others??? I'm sure that the youts who cause the truck incident in ga will be doing it again since they got a slap on the wrist (out on $1000 bond for the leader) They probably think "It be cool"
