Posted on 08/02/2005 7:19:52 PM PDT by CO Gal

A brain-dead pregnant woman who has been kept on life support for nearly three months to give her fetus more time to develop gave birth to a baby girl Tuesday, the woman's brother-in-law said.

There were no complications during delivery and the baby "is doing well," Justin Torres wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

The baby, Susan Anne Catherine Torres, weighs one pound 13 ounces and is 13 1/2 inches long, he said.

The infant was delivered via caesarean section, the hospital said.

Susan Torres, a 26-year-old researcher at the National Institutes of Health, lost consciousness from a stroke May 7 after aggressive melanoma spread to her brain.

I think part of the reason they delivered the baby now is that the cancer could spread to the baby. I saw on one of the shows (Larry King?) the new father saying the doctor's were balancing the risk of premature birth with the risk of cancer.

An old boss of mine (he's 75 yrs old now) was the smallest kid born west of the Rockies at that time to survive - I think he was 1 lb and something.

So you would just let the baby die?

I don't even have words.

If you knew a woman who was pregnant, who had 8 kids
already, three who were deaf, two who were blind, one mentally retarded, and she had syphilis, would you recommend that she have an abortion?

If ya say yes we'd have never heard Beethovens music...it was his Mom...or so the story goes.....

You are have every right to express your opinion.

Thank goodness that is all it is......your opinion.

May this Father love and nourish this last gift of Love his wife gave to him.

Unselfish Love wow what a helluva great concept.

A part of her lives on in this new little girl that has come into the world. May God grant Dad's heart with growth in love everytime he looks into his daughters eyes.

Oh BTW newzjunkey don't forget to buckle up and never drive drunk because if you get in harms way the EMT and LE responding might have opinions too. Have A Good Life and Save your money for a rainy day so tax payers will not be burdened by you.

Karma Dude.

This is wonderful news!!! I've thought about this many times since I 1st heard about it.

I am so happy that this child, who has had so much love sent to her while her mother still nurtered her with the last her body had to offer, that this blessed child will have a chance at life.

Thank You Lord for delivering this baby unto this world, Thank You for the blessings to come as this loved child is nurtured by her father and family, and Thank You for allowing Mrs Torres to fullfil her final task of bringing a precious soul into this world to bask in your love and witness your glory.

May God guide those who care for this tiny baby and may He ensure that she grows up and lives a full and happy life in His service, in Jesus' name.

Are you being sarcastic, because if you're not I can't believe your attitude. Pray for this child and stop being so delusional.

She's not just in a coma, she's flatline brain dead meaning if she wasn't on life support she would surely completely die as natural order works.

Next time you catch cold better not take any antibiotics - they interfere with the natural order.

The baby weighes almost 2 lbs. which plenty of babies have been born weighing & have grown up into healthy children.
