16th street in DC is now called the Avenue of the Presidents. It shouldnt be changed.

I wouldnt mind seeing Malcolm X Avenue being renamed.

why just some stupid street... They should name the one of the longest interstate highway as the Ronald Reagan Highway... Like I-35.

16th street to Ronald Reagan Street? Is that a good thing. Has Ronald Reagan really gone down to that level for a street name? I mean, have Hyundai Blvd or Microsoft Way but Ronald Reagan as 16th street. And, it's not even the 1st street but 16th? I mean, why not rename 32nd street to Ronald Reagan. No no, make like little road, like a smallville road to the Ronald Reagan road.

Speaking as someone who actually lives in D.C., please don't vote if you're not from here. This isn't your city, it's my city. I'm sick to death of arrogant meddlers like Henry Bonilla who presume to treat my home like a board game or an ant colony.

Anyway, Tom Davis has already said that bill is D.O.A. We'll be quite content with Reagan National Airport and the Reagan Trade Center downtown.

Once upon a time I lived on Grove Street in Berkeley. The UC students decided the street name should be changed to The Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. Way.....It was a truly nasty confrontation.

Well, in my heart of hearts, I imagine they named the Wilson Center after Ronald Wilson Reagan. ;)

I think Berkeleybeej understands the nature of my conflict here (and better, considering Berkeley looks down on D.C. as too right-wing).

I feel I should add I yield to no one in my Reagan love. My mother let me pull the lever for him in 1980 when I was 6, and he's still the only politician for whom I feel not just respect but fondness. But when you talk about Freeping polls, now you're talking about my home.

I don't remember which street it was they named for him, but I know Clinton has a street named for him in Little Rock

I seem to remember on my last trip to Atlanta, they had a road named for Carter.


Last time I checked, neither of the two have a street named expressly for them in Washington D.C, and there is a reason for this....... They were not from Washington D.C.


Reagan should have a street named after him, however, they should do it somewhere in California, either San Diego or Los Angeles.

DC is a federal city--that is the whole point of its existence. It belongs to all of the United States. If you don't like it, move to a state. There are several to chose from within easy commuting distance. DC is a unique city.

There are currently about 70 things named for Reagan in the whole country--that's compared to 600+ for JFK and 800-1000 for Martin Luther King Jr.

Every other federal city in the world has legislative representation typical of that country's other jurisdictions. Plus, none of the founding fathers lived long enough to see D.C. become busy, much less populous, and the circumstances of our existence have changed many times for many reasons over the years. Hardly seems like a Bill of Rights issue to me.

But the real issue is, if you own my city, come fix my pothole. Better yet, lobby your congressman to have the fed pay for local police detail when anti-money rioters come to town so we can fix the pothole ourselves.

As for the point about Crackhead Barry and Dem mismanagement, I'm certainly not going to say Barry wasn't a crackhead or a boss or an exploiter. So when do the taxpayers get to annex East St. Louis, the French Quarter and West Baltimore? What do you do with Maryland if Mfume wins that Senate race next year?

BTW, when Barry got busted he'd already been mayor for 12 years and owned two-thirds of the city. That's the power of machine incumbency -- his re-election in '94 differs from a Daley's or a Sharp James's only insofar as crack and hookers are sleazier than raw cash.

Does that make my city better than fill-in-the-blank bad city? No ... but annex Detroit and then we can talk.
