Global warming conference opens in Greenland

COPENHAGEN (AFP) - A conference on global warming has opened in Greenland, Denmark's Arctic territory which is heavily affected by rising temperatures around the globe.

The informal meeting, which began Tuesday, groups 25 environment ministers from the United States, India, Brazil, China, Japan and several European countries.

Talks will include future international climate cooperation after 2012 when the first phase of the Kyoto protocol ends, the Danish environment ministry said.

A recent study, the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment, showed that the Arctic has been heating up twice as fast as the rest of the Earth over the past decade due to the so-called greenhouse effect.

Less than a century from now, Arctic ice could melt completely during the summer, threatening many species and the lifestyle of the indigenous Inuit population, the study warned.

Danish Environment Minister Connie Hedegaard picked Ilulissat, in the Disko bay in western Greenland, 250 kilometres (150 miles) north of the polar circle, as a venue for the four-day conference to show colleagues how fast Greenland's glaciers are already melting.

"Climate change is not a theoretical threat. We can already feel it in Greenland's fragile nature," Hedegaard said before the conference kicked off.

The Greenland conference is to help prepare for the 11th United Nations climate conference in Canada in December.

Talks are to be held behind closed doors with a news conference scheduled at the end of the conference.

All of that pollution coming out of Asia, especially China, is causing it. But then again, it's easier for the donkeys to say,

it's Bush's fault.

I find it very troubling that Greenland is mostly ice, and Iceland is mostly green.

Rove is involved in this, I just know it!

You nailed it. Greenland wasn't called green because the Vikings enjoyed ironic humour. The whole world was much warmer in their day.

Education is a crutch with which the foolish attack the wise to prove that they are not idiots...

It's a fair bet there's a lot of education at that conference.

They grew crops there for a long time that can't be grown there anymore. The climate would have had to been considerably warmer yet I don't see that fact represented on their climate charts.

How do the Warmists explain this?

Eric the Red and his descendants lived on Greenland, grew grapes, grain, raised cattle, etc., from 986 to about 1400 when it became cold again. Must've been all that soot from the industrial revolution, eh ?

During that span the temperature on Greenland would have had to have been several degrees warmer than now. I don't know the method used that gives them the data from which they create the climate charts that they use to show us how the earth has gotten warmer but that method is proven inacurate with the Greenland Vikings evidence. Any data they have which used the faulty method should be thrown out. This kills their Warmist religion.

And it is a religion, per James Schlesinger's WSJ article from last week. Get it and read it, if you can. If you can't find it, remember two words: Dirt Worshipers.
