if you are going to carry, i think you have a special responsibility to avoid putting yourself in situations where you have to shoot someone. forcing confrontations over something as minor as noise in a restaurant doesn't fit that.

wold you have done the same if it had been a young family where the kids were making noise?

personally I wouldn't shoot anyone over a breakfast burrito no matter how much noise they were making. i would leave.

to say nothing of your legal mess had the incident escalated. after all, you did approach them.

I agree that someone in his fifties should be able to give "advice" to people in their twenties on how to behave.

They probably thought you were bacon. Thats what you wanted, isn't it? I see you as nothing but a bully with a gun. In this vanity event, your weapon simply enhanced your manhood.

Proving once again how utterly and thoroughly brainwashed people are regarding an individuals right to carry, both by the anti's and those who get paid to carry.

What if CJ was a cop, or an ex-cop, or the group was planning for the right moment to kill the owner, beat the waitress to death, steal the money, and burn the joint down?

All these negative comments immediately dive for the FUD factor.

People who think this way are the ones who don't, won't shouldn't carry, because they're the ones most likely to shoot themselves.

A CCW in NY, yes, NY.

You remind me of those "garratroopers" in Viet Nam that ran around in the rear wearing spit shined jungle boots and bandoleers of polished brass ammo. Never heard a shot fired in anger but are the biggest hero's you can find in a bar.

If you had pulled that crap on me you would have had to shoot that little pop gun, (Nine mil sucks) or eat it.

An armed society is a polite society.

That is no reason for an armed society. I think you're always conscious of wearing that gun and you make decisions/judgements because you have it on you. That gun is too big for you.

I was wearing a 9mm semi-auto on my right hip. I never touched it and I made no threats, but it was nevertheless visible.

Even without touching it, it could be considered “brandishing” in some areas, due to the context of the situation.

You think intimidating a bunch of kid's whose only crime was laughing too loud in a public restaurant was a good thing?

What other "Cholera Joe" only laws would you like to enforce?

I've carried both professionally and privately for over 30 years and never had to overtly "show' my weapon to intimidate.

This sounds like a true "Walter Mitty" moment....

This morning?
IF I understand your account correctly, you might want to reflect back back on this in a few days and ask yourself if you acted wisely.
And no, I'm not some moderate, I'm very pro Second Amendment.

Bear in mind that I am not an imposing figure. I'm 5'9", mid 50's, and slim.

[snip}

What made the difference? Open carry. I was wearing a 9mm semi-auto on my right hip. I never touched it and I made no threats, but it was nevertheless visible.

I think that points out the whole Freudian undercurrent.

When I wake up hungry at 4:30 AM, I have myself a bowl of cereal and check the news on the web.

If you didn't like the noise level you could have had your breakfast to go. I don't see why 4:15 AM is an inappropriate time for a group of kids to be noisy in a diner. I hope that they accommodated you out of courtesy and not out of fear that you would go Columbine on them.

On this occasion at least, you used bad judgment. You should have done the smart thing and taken your food to go.

Your CCW is not about making other people mind their manners; it's about something else.

You were well within your rights to ask the punks to pipe down.

The fact that you were wearing your sidearm, which clearly had an effect on these kids, does not make you a "bully" or wrong for doing what you did.

Just a thought for some of the other Freepers on this post: Do you think England would be having such a problem w/ their youth if law abiding citizens were permitted to carry? I would really hate to have the kids in the US morph into the kids (punks) in the UK who seem to have the run of the place (no offense to the UK Freeper crowd).

Regards,

CP

I don't know and I wasn't there but I'm glad it worked out. I have had a concealed cary permit for over 20 years and have never had to show a gun. Also, I learned two things earning my 2nd degree black belt,

1) If you can avoid a confrontation without loss, do so and

2) One can win and still get hurt.

It might have been better to get the meal to go, but, like I said, I wasn't there.

Good thing they were drunk. You can bet they'd have a good story when the police arrived. "he threatened us with his gun!" "he pointed to his gun and said he'd blow our heads off!"

You know they'd all have the same story. The result could've been brandishing. It's happened before.

Sorry, poor judgement, you should've just packed up and left telling the manager, waitress whoever you'd take your business elswhere. I've had a CPL most of my adult life, now approaching 60, I've never had a reason to even think about it. And I'm in the 'burbs of Detroit. your situation could've escalated very fast and you'd have been in the wrong. Chalk it up to one of lifes lessons.

Sorry Joe, you were out of line.

The party of 10 were friends out having a good time, you my friend intruded on them, not the other way round.

If I was there I would have called the police on you, and let you explained why a group in a public place needed to keep the noise down because you were bothered.
