Everyone knows that San Francisco is a focal point for anti-war sentiment. Protests, civil disobedience and other acts designed to show opposition to the war in Iraq are standard fare in these parts. But now it seems that San Francisco anti-war activists have taken their opposition to the war in Iraq a step further.
Not content with simply protesting the war, they've trained their sights on all things military. In an apparent effort to rid the city of any semblance of its military history, various leftist groups, and even some city officials, are trying to erase the military's presence altogether. In short, San Francisco has declared itself a military-free zone.
Following on the heels of their success in sometimes violently shutting down job fairs that include military recruiters on college campuses, the counterrecruitment
movement is now looking to broaden its influence. Instead of merely protesting the existence of military recruiters on campuses, the movement wants to ban them altogether. Proposition I, a measure that will be on the ballot this November, seeks to do just that.
Put together by a group called College Not Combat, the initiative of the same name talks tough on the surface. But it doesn't have any teeth. The nonbinding measure simply asks that individual schools and colleges consider banning military recruiters and denying recruiters access to their student directories, which would violate section 9258 of the No Child Left Behind Act. In the process, these schools could very well have to forgo federal funds. Given that such institutions are unlikely to want to get off the federal gravy train, it's doubtful they will choose to take this action.

Alright...but only if I can watch. *

"We should just allow SF to declare itself a city state, so we no longer have to deal with them."
Exactly!
No more federal funding. No federal buildings. Cut all ties and wait for the Chinese to come take the place. Those homos will love the Chinese I'm sure.
There was a study posted here maybe two weeks ago that reported that the biggest ultra-commie cities -- SF, Boston, Seattle -- are becoming relatively childless. The reason in SF at least is that anybody that is normal in any way is moving out already.
They'll probably form their own little militia, of course with the slogan, "never leave your buddy's behind"
Good, pull out all military funding, close all bases in that area, cut funds to the universities, stop federal funding for roads, and anything else they rely on government funding for survival.
Better yet, lets storm the city and drive the fruit cakes into the ocean.
The USN needs to move its SF "Fleet Week" down to Long Beach.
Of course, that may slow down business at the bath houses...sorry, couldn't resist!
I'm sure the camel jockeys will be happy to hear that San Francissyco is a military-free zone.
Just to don't come crying for help when the place goes up in smoke...again!

USS SAN FRANCISCO (SSN 711) builds close relationship with namesake city

San Fran is not a focal point. It is a FECAL point.
Wait a second... it's big, hard, and full of seamen, and San Francisco DOESN'T want it??
Sorry. No. What's worse than fighting there to defend their sorry butts because they won't is to have to defend them as refuges in our towns. Whatever it takes to keep the lib cowards in SF is the best.
Never believe hardcore leftwing vermin when they say, "I support the troops, but...".
O'Reilly had one of the city council members on his show a few nights ago talking about them voting to keep the USS Iowa out of SF.
O'Reilly flat out asked him why. The liberal lying coward kept trying to make it sound like it was "economic" issues that forced them to vote no. He said, "My grandfather served in WW2." in some half-hearted attempt to say he has respect for the military.
O'Reilly pulled out the fact that every place where a ship of this importantance is displayed, it turns a profit. Especially with the amount of tourists that flock to SF's waterfront areas, it would probably end up being a very profitable venture for the city.
After more pushing, the guy admited that it was not an economic matter, but they voted against it as a protest against the iraq war! Right on national tv!
And I hope all veterans, military, retirees and their family and friends make San Francisco off limits for vacations, and meeting places.
Additionally when China or North Korea drop an ICBM on San Francisco, there will not be anyone left in city hall to write up a proper ticket and fine those waskilly Commies.
LOL, best line of the day. It's obvious that San Franciscans use their anal cavities for more than just sex, apparently that is where a lot of their thinking originates.
BOR told the guy that if it was guaranteed to never cost SF a dime he and the others would still be against the Iowa coming to town because they are anti-military and thats the real reason they rejected the Iowa. The guests smirk and non-response was a solid indication that BOR nailed him. Economics had nothing to do with it.
I live in Seattle and can back this up. Seattle is become a childless city. The outlying suburbs are where all the childbirths are happening.
This city really is at a crossroads with the liberals doing everything possible to drive companies like Boeing out thinking that all that tax revenue and jobs can be made up via dot com companies and higher taxes.
The governor's election fiasco up here was a major wake up call to the people of this city. It also shows that a big part of the problem is that soo many liberal californians have moved up here and brought their idiot politics with them. Its amazing when you talk to them and you hear them bitch about why they left California (cost of living, crime, illegals, price fixing policies leading to shortages, etc), but then they run out and vote for the same liberal type of democrats that destroyed California.
Your starting to see monthly newspapers popping up that are extremely communist/socialist biased in all the coffee shops. There is a an artist/hippie section of Seattle called Freemont where they have a statue of lenin displayed that they bought from Russia. I've met some Russian people who have immigrated here recently and they said they were absolutely sickened when they saw this.
