I've got one better. I took my wife in this past Monday morning for outpatient surgery and the first name of the RN that was prepping her was (I'm not joking it was on her nametag) "Mecca". She was as blond and white as a Swedish model. Can you believe someone would actually name their child Mecca?
Maybe muzzies name their little girls Mecca, I don't know. All I can figure is that her parents must have been drugged-out hippies from the 60's. And of course my dear sweet clueless wife has to draw attention to it by saying, " I see your name is Mecca. That's a very....(awkward pause)....unusual name." I swear my wife should have been named Edith. Aw, geez.
Maybe if the girl named "Mecca" hears that enough times she'll change her name to something reasonable. It's easy to change one's first name.
There's plenty of good names out there - she can look in the baby name books!
Could be a nickname. Or maybe she has foreign parents who gave her a name that's common in their country but sounds ridiculous in ours.
