OPINION: San Francisco Declares Itself a Military-Free Zone
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 8/24/5 | Cinnamon Stillwell

Posted on 08/24/2005 5:47:20 AM PDT by SmithL

Everyone knows that San Francisco is a focal point for anti-war sentiment. Protests, civil disobedience and other acts designed to show opposition to the war in Iraq are standard fare in these parts. But now it seems that San Francisco anti-war activists have taken their opposition to the war in Iraq a step further.

Not content with simply protesting the war, they've trained their sights on all things military. In an apparent effort to rid the city of any semblance of its military history, various leftist groups, and even some city officials, are trying to erase the military's presence altogether. In short, San Francisco has declared itself a military-free zone.

Following on the heels of their success in sometimes violently shutting down job fairs that include military recruiters on college campuses, the counterrecruitment

movement is now looking to broaden its influence. Instead of merely protesting the existence of military recruiters on campuses, the movement wants to ban them altogether. Proposition I, a measure that will be on the ballot this November, seeks to do just that.

Put together by a group called College Not Combat, the initiative of the same name talks tough on the surface. But it doesn't have any teeth. The nonbinding measure simply asks that individual schools and colleges consider banning military recruiters and denying recruiters access to their student directories, which would violate section 9258 of the No Child Left Behind Act. In the process, these schools could very well have to forgo federal funds. Given that such institutions are unlikely to want to get off the federal gravy train, it's doubtful they will choose to take this action.

BRAC needs to take a close look and SF.

Back in the early `90s, the first round of base closings took out just about everything in the entire Bay Area. That's why I have a new career.

If S.F. does get invaded, it'll be the first time in the history of war that the invaders would be the ones in danger of being raped. Or perhaps they plan to beat them back with dildos. 'Assault with a friendly weapon'. Oh the 'Fag Of War'.

Not too long ago San Francisco was the greatest city in America.

Now, it has come to this!

This just serves goes to once again demonstrate the corrupting force of unbridled Liberalism.

Hmm, so they are not interested in military careers?

I was down there a year ago. Hadn't been there in about 10 years. Much of the city landmarks are in total decay. San Francicso used to be called the Paris of the United States. Now its on a downward spiral.

How about they pull all the cops out of SF for a month to give the twits an idea of what the world would look like without our military...?

Fleet Week/Blue Angels are scheduled this year in October. We go every year and it is spectacular.

Have you visited the WWII submarine at Fishermen's Wharf, USS Pampanito, yet? It's a great experience.

"Ambassador Barbara Boxer (or would it be Feinstein)?"

Feinstein was a mayor of SF and still has a home there, Box o' Rocks lives in Greenbrae, Marin County, about 15 minutes north of SF.I live about 10 minutes from Greenbrae..... I personally boycott the City...it was once a great, fun place to go....but now I NEVER go into SF- its dirty, crowded and I will not support this kind of stupidity.

They've been there for many years, but as in all things in San Francisco, it didn't get there easily. During the war, Pampanito torpedoed a Japanese troop ship. Unfortunately, it had a lot of Australian POWs onboard. After the war, SF's waterfront was run by an Australian labor boss that wouldn't allow Pampanito at any SF dock. He died before Pampanito was finally allowed. Here is their web site: http://www.maritime.org/pamphome.htm

There are liberal forces now in Seattle that are trying to get the blue angels to stop performing during our seafair each year in Augest.
Articles in the Seattle-PI newspaper, which is basically liberal propaganda to make the commies around here feel better ran articles about how the concept of Seafair (naval ships docking to do tours and the blue angels performing) was an "outdated" event and Seattle would be better off without it. They talked about how it isn't multicutural enough.
They have already made the air restrictions so tight on where the blue angels can fly during the show that they can only do about 1/4 quarter of the moves they would do normally.

What goes around comes around. If they are consistent, if there is ever an attack from a foreign power, SF needs to refuse to allow the US military to protect them.

Stories like this fill me with revulsion. I am glad I don't live even near there any more.

Note the first name of the writer of this pile.

I mean, it kind of has a nice ring, but can you imagine naming your child "Cinnamon"?

So, if a foreign power were to attack the repulsive cesspool of San Francisco, the United States is under no obligation to defend it.

Nice.

Why don't we just invite that ugly pygmy Kim Jong Il to take over and sodomize San Francisco?

Capital idea.

All that needs to be done is destroy Golden Gate Bridge, San Mateo Bridge, and Dumbarton bridge and then setup a blockade wall near San Jose and you can make the pennensula into a Leftist detention camp. Keep the Bay Bridge so that Treasure Island can be the gateway, if it is still open, is a Navy Base.

Free Speech is just that, speech not violence. Anyone who goes to the point of violence needs to be punished. Even for someone on our side.
