A Lipstick President (MAUREEN DOWD URGES HILLARY TO 'STAY THE COURSE"...)
The New York Times ^ | 8/31/05 | By MAUREEN DOWD

[snip]

What Hillary has going for her is exhaustion. Exhaustion kicks in with any party in power for eight years, let alone one that tricked the country into war. And at some point, voters may be too exhausted to resist Hillary's relentless ambition any longer.

But by hanging back and trimming her positions, by keeping her powder dry until a more politically advantageous time, she may miss the moment when Americans are looking for someone to emerge from her cowering party to articulate their anger about Iraq or their fear about a Supreme Court that will scale back women's rights and civil rights here, as Islamic courts do the same in Iraq.

Hillary may get caught flat-footed. Or she may be right in betting that there's no need to do anything rash now, like leading.

Scary! For a second I was afraid the article was going to announce that Bwarney Fwank was going to run.

If Hillary is the "best" mind our nation has to offer, what next? What after she serves 8 years?

The nation consumes nothing but sequels and remakes, it seems.

Living in the past won't take us forward, especially when we are not honest when we look back.

What Hillary has going for her is exhaustion

No words, she is not a threat but rather a tool.  Why many on this board consider HRC a contender is beyond me.

She's not dangerous.  Those that support her are.  Know your enemy.

We will NEVER grow tired of opposing the Marxist-Leninist and phony Hillary. She can persist until hell freezes over, and people will appear out of the woodwork in droves to vote against her! It will be Nixon all over again and liberals whining after a 49-state landslide: [We] don't know anyone who voted for [the Republican candidate].

From Oxblog:
IMMUTABLE LAWS OF DOWD

1. Ashcroft never deserves credit.

2. Offering constructive solutions to problems, instead of whining endlessly about them, is a sign of weakness.

3. The People Magazine principle: all political phenomena can be explained with reference solely to caricatures of the personalities involved ("Dubya" is stupid; "Poppy" is an aristocrat; Cheney is macho-man; etc.). Any reference to the common good or even to old-fashioned politicking is, like, so passe.

4. It is much better to be cute than coherent.

5. Maureen knows best. Her long years as a columnist (doing basically what your great-aunt Tillie does in the nursing home bull sessions, but getting paid for it) have given her deep insight into foreign relations, politics, welfare, the Constitution, and all other topics. To disagree with Maureen in any way is not only a sign of being wrong, it's a hallmark of pure evil...or at least membership in the NRA, which is pretty much the same thing.

6. It is usually possible and always desirable to name-drop and name-call in the same sentence.

7. The particulars of Maureen's consumer-driven, shamefully self-involved life reveal universal truths.

Explanation of the Dowd/Douglas connection: by Miss Marple- 2/11/03

Ms. Dowd was escorted around New York and DC for many months by one Michael Douglas of Hollywood fame and fortune. She got to go to all the best parties, was photographed for the tabloids, and was picking out a gown to wear at the Oscars. Of course, Michael had become interested in her during Clinton's impeachment, when she had written some very anti-Clinton columns. After a few weeks of the Michael treatment, she began to write anti-Starr, anti-Newt columns, ignoring Clinton.

Then Clinton was acquitted by the Senate. In an amazing coincidence, Michael Douglas dropped Ms. Dowd like a hot potato, and instead picked up a hot tomato, Catherine Zeta-Jones, who subsequently bore him a son and they were married.

Ms. Dowd cannot get over her tragic loss. Her columns are increasingly anti-Bush, in the hope of impressing her lost love, Michael.

In addition, we think she has a secret crush on the President and is trying to get him to pay attention to her. Ha!

Americans are looking for someone to emerge from her cowering party to articulate their anger.

Dowd is having one of her frequent bad-hair-and-early-onset-of-Alzheimer's days.

Dear Mo:
When did Ted Kennedy die? Ever heard of Cindy Sheehan? Durbin? Rankel? Dean?
And the list goes on...

Man is she captivating or what?

But . . . she may miss the moment when Americans are looking for someone to emerge . . . to articulate their anger about Iraq or their fear about a Supreme Court that will scale back women's rights and civil rights here, as Islamic courts do the same in Iraq.

Dowd is so confused she's laughable. She actually is trying to ask people to get mad about Iraq because we aren't doing enough for women's rights over there. Compared to Saddam's regime, the new Iraq has more women in positions of political power than any other nation in the region. And she tries to throw in a thinly-disguised John Roberts attack as well, as if he was one of Saddam's henchmen.

Honestly, this article is exhibit #1 for Dowd being a crackpot.

"Americans are looking for someone to emerge from her cowering party to articulate their anger."

Dems will continue to sink into irrelevancy until they realize that anger should be directed at their own party because their party has no agenda and no message. They keep flogging the same tired outdated message they did in the hippie 60's.
