Yes, last week on the news there was a report of someone breaking into a school district motor pool and draining the tanks of 10 or so vehicles.

I heard folks who have pumped extra gas in cans and are storing them in their homes...WHAT GIVES?

You're going to be hearing stories about panic-driven people running out and trying to store hundreds of gallons of gasoline in plastic milk jugs and bleach bottles in their houses, and then one night something will happen and the house will go up like a bomb.

I am ticked at the EnviroWackos and the Liberals in the Senate... This should never have happened... We should have some spare refining capacity -- just in case...

New Orleans wasn't the energy source, but a majority of the east coast refined fuel came thru the area that has no power now for their pumps:

I was in the Mt. Vernon section of Alexandria. Wish I had the option to ride metro. I work in Tyson's Corner, so metro is not an option for me.

BTW, I wasn't trying to by gas. I had to get that stupid VA state inspection sticker. I forgot it was the last day of the month. I always do that. :-(

"Why are folk rushing to the gas pumps when they should just chill and wait for things to settle."

Good question. Why don't they have all that stuff already? One of the aspects of being personally prepared (other than being called nuts and paranoid!) is that you don't add to the problem when things DO get a little bad.

That said, and ignorant of the number of pipelines serving the east coast, I'm hoping that there are several other lines coming across further north that can handle more of the load.

The gas stations are packed in Augusta,GA. The roads are very empty except the traffic jams at stations.

I wen tou ta little while ago to get gas, I am not standing in those lines. I might venture out after midnight.

My Durgango is full, my Ranger is below a 1/4 of a tank. I hope I can get gas by Friday night.

all bets are off for a civil end to this mess

If everyone were aware of what is going on they would be checking their Y2K stash right about now. A lot of pipelines originate at NO.

Bingo.

I was just going to post that, at least in Alabama, they are rationing diesel to trucks. If the trucks don't run nothing gets delivered. I got this word from our trucking department in Alabama.

Before EVERYONE gets into a panic, the majority of these stories and rumors are anecdotal and many not able to be confirmed.

We need to have a consistent effort to CONFIRM these stories. Frankly, the gas shortage sounds a bit sensational at the moment.

Has there been any confirmation of gas companies allocating to regions or gas shortages????

Hey, if it means that Streisand and the other Malibu elitists continue to have an unobstructed view of Catalina Island, I am willing to forego the untapped oil in the Channel Islands and pay $2.00 a gallon more and wait in line for an hour. They should have to suffer to improve the lives of millions of Americans.

The same holds true for the folks on the west coast of Florida, right off Tampa. The environmentalists are correct. US society should grind to a halt before the scenic landscape is blemished just to tap the extraordinary reserves that are there. Americans walked before property values went up so high and we can walk again to keep them up there.

My husband is a reporter in NC and just came from a news conference with Gov. Easley, he said NC is running out of gas.

Nationwide refinery capacity was being utilized at 95-98% (sometimes more) before this happened. Katrina has idled 8% of nationwide refining capacity.

Sometimes what looks like a panic is more like a softsell.

I think everyone should calm down. There are refineries all over the country.
