The one lesson the scenes of looting in New Orleans have hammered home is that the Founding Fathers knew what they were doing when they enacted the Second Amendment to the Constitution. They knew from experience that there is only a thin veneer between a civilized society and utter anarchy.
How many of us live in a city or town where we know that but for the precence of the police, we would be looking at the same type of lawlessness playing itself out on our televisions this week?
I for one am going to go out and purchase a shotgun. I'll be damned if I'm going to let some punk threaten my family and rob me a gun or knifepoint.
Seems to me that the best hurricane relief we can provide to the good folks of New Orleans and Biloxi, is a gun and some ammunition to guard what's left of their homes and business.
So thank you Founding Fathers for your foresight. We have looked into the belly of the beast, and it's not a pretty sight!

No, no, no -- I did not say that. I said that I could understand someone looting a grocery store for food (not that it's right), but that there is no excuse for stealing TVs, VCRs, jewelry, etc... Sheesh. Common sence -- get some!

Maybe they're only stealing jewelery, etc so that they can trade it for food and other basic necessities. That may be the single most idiotic statement I have read at this site. And I am included zot-bait vanity rants from DU trolls. I'm trying to come up with a comparison for how devoid of credibility that sentence is, but analogies fail me. The only thing close is an Eddie Murphy stand-up bit where his wife/girlfriend catches him cheating and he keeps saying, "Wasn't me, baby." She says, I followed you to the hotel. Saw you get out of the car and walk to the room. "Wasn't me, baby." etc., etc.

Hmm lets see Mossberg 500,and Tuarus PT-145 for the wife, and Baretta 92F, with a CETME for me, several mags, and lots of extra ammo for all of them. We also have water tight storage boxes with 7 days worth of food, propane and propane stove and other incidentals.
Living in Virginia Beach, through Hurricane Isabel taught us alot!

Since we have chosen to import a lot of those folks to Houston,
I reckon I'll be needing all my guns and ammunition myself.

A pistol is useful for fighting your way to your rifle
Get a shotgun, and an AR15 spare parts, lots of ammo and practice, practice, practice
Take a good pistol, shotgun, and tactical carbine course.

Dont forget arrows...very quiet and you can recover and use again....
Also putting one through the neck of a terrorist/looter/home invasion/rapist/muderer/gang banger thereby pinning him to a tree is bound to be very discouraging to his broze...

I was telling my wife the same thing. I have a S & W .357 handgun but I think a shot gun would make a lot of sense as added armament. Also I plan to beef up my meager supply of food and ammo.

If you were dying of thirst and had a family who was starving you'd probably loot a store too. And leave with as much as I could carry -- or push in a cart -- of jewelry, liquor, designer clothes, TVs, etc? No way!
Wake up! Many of those thugs are just acting out the filth that has saturated their so-called "minds" during years of polluting their environment with (c)"rap" "music".
