Some mullah said it was Allah's punishment for the sinfulness of the beach communities.
So did a so-called Christian minister

If Kerry had been elected President, hurricanes would have been abolished for the poor and middle class.

If I'd not had water or food for three days, I'd be getting some from him!

I've been wondering why he and the video crew doesn't fill their truck up and make a delivery.
No, stand around and bitch.

Don't get me wrong, I don't understand why food and at least water couldn't be dropped off to these people.
I understand that the people on the overpasses are in no immediate danger, other than dehydration.
I've seen a number of truck, cars etc drive right by them.

Someone needs to step up and take charge .

How many blocks/miles are we talking about that is in "the bowl" and perhaps they should give serious consideration to making "the bowl" New Orleans Lake - move any historical structures that may still be intact (though one wonders how much damage anything retained to be worth that).

I'm surprised it's not an Al Jazeera "Breaking News" story!

The regular Army could have been used right away. Right close by, on FT. Lee, there are thousands who could have been sent, lots of heavy equipment that could have been put on the road, etc. And from military bases all over help could have come. Why do we just rely on the National Guard. I know there must be some military/govt. reason, but the resources seem to be sitting around, why can't they be used at times like this?

"The Islamofascists have already declared this to be Allah's punishment of the U.S."

Well, some nice folks on Free Republic have said the same thing, but referring to the Judeo-Christian deity. It seems that New Orleans is a sinful city, according to them, that brought down the wrath of God upon itself.

How is that any different?

"New Orleans knew this was coming for years and years."

Yep, but they think it's the federal gov't's fault.

One of the commentators on WWL TV a few minutes ago said, "we are glad that the country will realize that Louisiana is really the wetlands for the United States. Now maybe the federal gov't will finally come in and fix this problem with the levees and the pumps."

They've been waiting for someone else to fix this for a long time.

Oh, I know...I am not saying save them over the people. I am worried they will get out and attack the people. Hungry wild animals roaming the streets seems a frighting thought to me.

"Hey Libs, here's your preview if we leave Iraq and don't secure our borders."

We should secure our borders. But do we have enough men to do it. I think we do.

"Where the hell is the Navy and the rest of the relief. I have been reading for over a day they are on there way. What is taking so long?"

They are waiting to be invited in by the NO mayor. You cannot send troops in to enforce public order without a declaration of martial law. (Federal power is limited by the Posse Comititus act.) The mayor only did that this morning.

Further, Federal resources are expected to coordinate with state and municipal authorities -- who are running around panicking. The mayor will not turn over the situation to Federal authorities, but at the same time will not take charge of the effort.

At this point, however, it may be time to push both the governor and mayor aside. Declare the area as in a state of insurrection and simply make it a federal responsibility. But to do that you have to virtually replace the local government. Kinda like what was done in the Civil War.

I remember, here after the hurricane two years ago. The base was cleaned up pretty fast. Yet the surrounding city, counties, etc. were struggling. The military had the heavy equipment and manpower that could have made a huge difference in helping. But there was no outside assistance to the civilian population. I wonder why this is not done?

What if the terrorists strike another city at the same time as this natural disaster?

This is like the old joke about a tornado hitting an Arkansas town. Did over $50,000 of improvments.
