As we speak, various Al Quaeda factions are fighting over who will take responsiblity for Katrina's destruction.

there are thousands who could have been sent

You want to send thousands of people into an area without any food, water, sanitation, communication etc.?? Are you wanting to help, or are you simply silly?

Thousands of additional people will all require food, water, etc. themselves. Without proper planning and preparation, all of these people will just add to the problem. The logistics required to support the "helpers" is just as important as the relief itself.

Use your head.... Sheeese.

OMG...announcements now about National Guardsmen and police who were in search and rescue efforts have been fired upon and are under attack. This is unbelievable.

"But priorities must take precedence" I am sorry but there is no great priority then living breathing Americans in distress.
It would be great to get a handle on the Mid East for future generations but these folks are here now. Our resources should not be so streached that we can not take care of our citizens in a time of need.

Hey...you don't have to be nasty. The Army brings its own food and water most of the time. I am from a military family. I know it can be done. Something better than what is being done certainly would help. If the Red Cross brings its people and feeds them, the Military certainly can.

Where the hell is the Navy and the rest of the relief. I have been reading for over a day they are on there way. What is taking so long? We have invaded countries quicker..

You obviously have more time to whine than you do to help. Think of all the assistance you could have given in just the time it took you type and post your silly whine.

Yes...I don't say they have to shoot. They could be there to help clean up. The size of the equipment and amt. of equipment that is sitting on bases everywhere would be so helpful.

What if the terrorists strike another city at the same time as this natural disaster? (That's a terrible thought!)

Actually, I think this would be the *worst* time for them to hit (from their perspective). Media coverage of their strike would be "competing" for airtime against the Katrina disaster. Furthermore, unless their strike was *massively* huge -- far greater than even 9/11 -- it would look like small-potatoes compared to the scope of the Katrina damage (in both lives lost and property destroyed).

Why would the terrorists want to strike at a time which would *lessen* the impact of their attack, and possibly even make it look paltry in comparison? Would the terrorists really want the American public to conclude, "oh well, terrorism sucks, it pales in comparison to the threat of natural disasters..."?

Declare the area as in a state of insurrection

Which technically isn't the case until the crime escalates to attack on government agencies

So, given all of your military knowledge, list a few of the units at Ft. Lee that are TOE'd to provide hurricane disaster relief within 24 hours?

How come you aren't asking the same questions about the "victims" themselves? Everybody that lives on the Gulf Coast gets bombarded with EOC advertisements about useful hurricane preparations like stocking five days worth of nonperishable food and clean drinking water.

Clearly if after one or two days these people are "starving" and "desperate", then the ultimate blame lies with them for failing to be responsible citizens.

Might I recommend the following, since you are so darned knowledgeable about disaster relief, maybe you should log off and get your lazy butt out to New Orleans where you can be helpful.

There is no such thing as Martial Law in the State of Louisiana. There is a 'State of Emergency' which is already in effect.

OK give me some facts. Where are the Navy ships that you want to help? What kind of resources need to be stocked on those ships? Where will the Navy access those resources? How long will it take to get those resources loaded on the ship? What is the fastest speed those ships can travel? What is the in route time between their current location and New Orleans? Where will those ships dock when they arrive? How will these assets be use when they arrive? Please, give me some of these precious little facts.
