Where are the helicopter gunships? I'll volunteer to ride as a marksman. I'll even supply my own AR-15 and ammunition.

A pro bono sniper...I'm with you!

Yep. I agree they are everywhere these days. Fortunately they are somewhat dispersed most of the time. But get even just a few together in one place and in a short time everything is trashed. They are up here, too.

Seattle is another US city that has experienced democrats being souped up on liberalism as well.

The turht is the Democrats keep most of the inner city folks in a slave mentally so they will be too stupid to vote for anyone other than a dem.

I got so sick of wasting my time in social work- no one is interested in getting those people off of welfare,or getting the people strong enough mentally to raise themselves up- the PTB are interesting in keeping the cash cow ,that our welfare system makes, going strong so they all have easy cushy jobs.

Martial law doesn't typically push the gov out. As for the new Homeland and FEMA powers, I'm totally in the dark and know absolutely nothing about them. Thanks for pointing that out. It totally escaped me.

I have always thought that every family should have a gun and know how to use it (trained in safety, handling and all that). As others have pointed out on other threads, the veneer of civilization is very thin. While I do believe that most people would not resort to violence or wickedness (as have the looters), there is an element that will and one should always be prepared. It's not a big deal anyway. My hubby is a hunter so guns are normal for me.

Well, I don't think ANYONE has seen anything like this before, but the Guard at least has manpower, equipment, supplies, organization and structure to respond as needed.

I lived thru the LA riots after the Rodney King case. There were buildings burning in all four directions from my apartment. Looters everywhere--and I didn't live in that bad a part of town.

The difference is that after about 3 days the NG showed up and order was quickly restored when men with M-16's started walking down Sunset Blvd. That is not happening here, I suspect for two reasons: (1) even under the best of circumstances, it takes a few days to move a bunch of NG troops into a city and we are just getting to the point where, if conditions were ideal, the NG would be able to move into and take control of the city; and (2) The logistics of getting them into New Orleans is a nightmare--Los Angeles was dry and had freeways coming into town. NO has no access except by air and boat--although getting boats in is probably very dangerous as this is not charted water.

Martial law doesn't typically push the gov out.

I think you mean 'push the local governments out' but it really does mean that. If they have a role to play under a presidential declaration of Martial Law, it is a role given to them in the 'situation zone' -- not a role by right.

that's breaking...that has been reported for days on FR and dismissed by the expert MSM watchers!

What your missing is that Delta Force is doing the evacuations.

I tried to gently say just what you said about why I had no interest in visiting NO and a few freepers didn't like it so I stopped. But I know that NO and a lot of other cities have major gang problems which results in a lot of crime. And I've got no interest to visit those places and neither do most tourists.

That's why what Guliani did for NYC was such a miracle and it brought tourists back to that City.

This is a disgrace...there is no excuse for this situation

I agree. Bush is far too focused on bringing the rule of Islam to Iraq and has been caught completely flat-footed with this disaster. This is a disaster that needs resources available at the federal level. Bush's platitudes are worthless and getting very tiresome.

I met a soldier in Starbucks...he is heading to Egypt. He told me the Louisiana Guard is in Iraq. He says there is not many soldiers left to help...he was stationed in South Georgia. I am sorry to say the libs may be right. We don't have enough soldiers to protect the homefront.

I never thought I would agree on anything with the libs, but I also think they may be right this time. Isn't responding to a disaster such as this supposed to be the primary function of a government?

We must find out the root causes.

Just find them and kill them

"NO was poorly managed from the beginning a strong stance was needed right away. Now the fruits of their inaction are starting to ripen and rot"

Political correctness BS and camcorders have everyone from police to military personnel afraid to do anything to control any situation, lest it be distorted by the America-hating MSM and they fine themselves the latest victim to have his life destroyed by the PC-hate-mob mentality. And unfortunately, the victims can not count on this administration to stand up for them to save them from the crucifixion hysteria.

Is 1st Amtrac Bn. from Pendelton overseas? I think 2nd Amtrak is in Iraq, and 3rd Amtac is too far off to respond. Is there a prepositioned 4th Reserve Amtrac?
