Maybe Mayor Nagin would like to explain this picture before he and the rest of his democratic fellow travelers continue to blast the fed's.

An aerial view of flooded school buses in a lot, Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, in New Orleans, LA. The flood is a result of Hurricane Katrina that passed through the area last Monday.(AP Photo/Phil Coale)

They should have started loading those buses Saturday afternoon. They knew by then that Katrina was a Cat 5. The sick, disabled and elderly should have been the first on those buses as soon as the evacuation order was issued.

Fox had a video on earlier w the same shot. Someone just needs to make a statement as mentioned earlier that these were at the disposal of the Mayor of NO to get those out who rely on public transportation - he didn't use them, which IMHO would have helped alleviate some of the situation down there.

These buses cannot be used because the are very uncomfortable and do not have the capacity to serve "hot" meals.

Or drinks or peanuts or potties!

Well, I don't know that there was much high ground to be had, but they didn't plan adequately for a levee breach, that's for freaking certain.

For Gods sake they should be using trucks, busses, anything that can roll out of town.

This picture has been haunting me since I first saw it. I have posted several times--why were not these buses--and any other means of large transport--at the READY for evacuating people on Saturday--before the storm hit? If I had that thought the minute I saw this picture--why couldn't have a responsible city official had it before? I am no genius--and know nothing about running a city--but common sense says you use what you have available in the most effective, responsible--and yes CREATIVE-- ways.

It might have cost the city a few bucks to pay people to mobilize these buses and stage them throughout the poorest sections of NO--but think of the savings in human lives!

I sure can't argue with you about that.

Fine, they get to put their family on the bus first. Problem solved.

In all seriousness, this is a HUGE find if it can be verified. The mayor and Blanco should be given hard labor if these buses were not part of an evacuation plan.

Busing to the ballot box!? This is obscene!

There are FAR TOO MANY people who clearly could have made it out of New Orleans on their own. Not all of these people are "old and infirm." MOST of them just didn't want to go. Period. Another percentage of them wanted to stay behind and loot.

Sorry ... it is VERY clear ... New Orleans had plenty of resources to get the people out 24 - 48 - 72 hours before the Hurricane. They could have used these School Busses to get the poor and the elderly OUT.

The blame should fall SQUARELY on this Mayor's neck. The VERY IDEA that he is whining about Bush makes me so sick I want to go puke all over his sorry ass. He has allowed his own Democrat constituency to loot and pillage the city. He has allowed his own Democrat constituency to shoot at relief workers and people coming to rescue his people. THAT is the reason why relief efforts are running so slow ... his own people are shooting at those coming to save them.

And he and his pals in the MSM have the gaul to cry "It's Bush's fault!" ASS WIPES.

It would have been hard getting them in considering all traffic, including south-bound lanes, were headed north.

Not according to what I saw on FNC and the other nets. The southbound lanes were NOT open for northbound traffic.

I'm sure I read or heard that somewhere. Sure it didn't happen on the last day before the storm?

Looks like there are 200+ buses sitting uselessly in the flood waters. If the dipstick Mayor and Governor had mobilized ALL available buses in southern LA (there must be many hundreds more, if not thousands) on Sat. and Sun. they could have evacuated tens of thousands of people, at least.... but that would require a few drops of foresight, gumption, and common sense.

Thse busses were at the ready. Absent the storm, they would have been used THE NEXT MORNING to bus many more kids than what people were in the dome all over New Orleans.

It is an abject failure and ineptitude that has led to untold suffering and loss of life...none of which is remotely the fault of the Bush administration or the federal agencies.

I would be willing to bet finding drivers in New Orleans for those buses would not have been dificult. Had New Orleans tried to get people out they could have, the city of New Orleans did nothing, absolutely nothing to help themselves even a tiny little bit. And now the people of New Orleans are screwed and thier city is dead. Hopefully other cities might catch a clue and start electing real leaders and real planners and start dealing harsely with the gangsta culture.
