Newspaper reporter shot in Baton Rouge

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. A well-known Florida newspaper says one of its reporters was shot and wounded while covering the hurricane aftermath in Baton Rouge.

The St. Petersburg Times says Marcus Franklin was shot Monday night while on his way back to a motel. The newspaper says the reporter was at a stop sign in a dimly-lit area when a man with a revolver walked up to the car and asked for his money. Franklin says he heard a pop but didn't realize he'd been shot in the stomach until he started driving off.

The 34-year-old journalist called 9-1-1 and was taken to the hospital. He was treated and released. Doctors decided not to remove the bullet, saying it was too risky. Officials say he was expected to fly back to St. Petersburg earlier today.

Mine too, but not for much longer if I can convince them to move to GA.

I saw it. Thanks.

You made my exact point, perhaps more eloquently than did I.

"You made my exact point, perhaps more eloquently than did I."

Well, I'm a much better racist than you.

So, when discussing what is going down in the "lower classes", perhaps those "overly tired" of PCisms, might be more specific than just saying "blacks" do this this, or "blacks are that". That might go a long ways in clearing things up.

But of course, now that I've written this, no doubts, I'll get some "I'M TIRED OF CENSORSHIP" posts. Or, FREEREPUBLIC is a "joke" in "speaking freely".

Yeah yeah yeah... I've seen coarsening in discourse this past week on FR. There's a fine line between a civil society, and one which preaches "all opinions are equal no matter how they are said or written".

Then there's the next argument: (sure to come) -- FReepers, in suggesting a bit of "sensitivity" in how they word posts, or address issues -- ARE NO DIFFERENT THAN THE PC COPS.

This is the classic squeeze put forward between all the racialist groupies, aided and abetted by many libertarians.

Sheehan groups say that if they can't say whatever lamo or verbal abusive or untruthful thing which comes into their head -- then there's no FREEDOM IN AMERICA.

Racialists, also believe this. And so do many Libertarians.

A civil society requires thoughtfulness BEFORE opening one's mouth.

You (rhetorically) can't have this both ways -- you have a civil society, or you have a "civil war" in a "free for all".

The members of that society get to DECIDE which path and what they want. THAT's what FREEDOM is about.

Baton Rouge has its own thugs.

Yes, they do. Along with everything else, you will probably see some turf wars as the new thugs move in. Baton Rouge, despite it's size, has always struck me as a small town (in a good way).

For the life of me, I don't know what the HELL you're saying.

Are you taking me to task, saying you think I'm a racist?

Or are you just expounding?

Or, third possibility, you haven't had your coffee yet.

This story smells. I wonder if the reporter was looking for the local drug market?

Do they do them by themselves, or do people pull the trigger.

I didn't know that guns themselves killed people.

The racism on FR is getting more and more out of hand everyday.

I am pretty damned predjudiced (you would have to live in Memphis to understand) and I agree with you totally.

There are many people here showing their hatred and darkside.

I drove through Memphis a year ago. I was stunned and shocked. Hadn't been to Memphis since 1979. OMG. How it has changed. Not good.

This type of car-jacking robbery has been popular in New Orleans for many years.

When a friend move there and came back with the description of this common occurrance, I could hardly believe it. New Orleans, outside of the French Quarter, had become a jungle full of predators years ago.

As the thugs spread out in various parts of the country, it behooves all good citizens to be armed.

And no, I'm not talking about the poor people who lost everything due to the hurricane. They should be helped as much as possible. I'm talking about the criminal element that has been present in New Orleans ever since the French ran the place.

"I see no insults, rather facts and opinions,we all are entitled to them"

Whenever a single unrelated attribute such as the type of hat, the length of one's socks, or the color of one's skin in used to predict or define behavior fact's are thrown out the window.

Whenever it is seen that people who share some attribute are engaged in repugnant behavior, that behavior is still the responsibility of the offending individual. No one should be made to bear the responsibility of others just because they share a ratio of melanin count. And no one should be allowed to use their skin color to camouflage their responsibility. As conservatives this should be anathema to us.

Categorizing people by the way they look and using that as a tool to understand people is just a lazy shortcut. The same kind of dull witted hand-waving machination that leftists involve their selves in.

Again, We're Conservatives and are better than that! We hold to objective truth. At a glance a conservative can surmise that the morally offensive crimes committed in the aftermath of the hurricane are not caused nor predicted by the offender's race. We should cast off that notion after even the briefest contemplation. We've seen the break down of social standards time and time again among many groups of people with the fault being the left's nihilistic embrace of lawlessness.

To think that this was about race and not the progressive's total abandonment of Judaeo-Christian ethics is to be led down a dead end by the lying left.

It's a trap.

To make a point.

Kinda like the story that reads "SUV kills family of 4" while ignoring the drunk idiot that was driving it.

The race hustlers have implied or directly stated that the president killed black Americans or allowed them to die. The msm has been complicit and, for shame, so have some of our politicians. This kind of racist crap is directly responsible for the incitement of violence. Strangely enough, it seems that those who point this out or notice that the the violent crime committed in the wake of the hurricane was done by one segment of society are the ones deemed racist.

The usual reverends were on the tube saying that America should be ashamed of what the world has seen of our country during this catastrophe. I agree somewhat with jackson and sharpton.

I am not ashamed of my president or the courageous military and first responders who risked their lives for anyone who needed help. I am not ashamed of the millions of volunteers who have worked tirelessly to help those they don't even know. I am not ashamed of citizens and organizations who have donated hundreds of millions of dollars to those in need.

I am ashamed that the world saw that so many people in our society are savages. That so many were too stupid or stubborn to evacuate when ordered or to take basic steps to ensure their safety and survival.

I am ashamed that an incompetent mayor and governor left their aged and helpless to fend for themselves against the onslaught of the cataclysmic forces of barbarians and nature and then try to blame it on the president and, by proxy, me.
