Its kind of like accusing foster parents of taking in children for the money.

The NYT is determined to remind us that all their rag is good for, is lining bird cages.

Keep up the good work, NYT!

Many years ago, I had an option, take a big promotion in NYC or transfer to the hinterland in a dead end job. I opted for the dead end job and never regretted it. At the time NYC was starting to put armed guards in the elementary schools, we left and never looked back.

Not only has Houston taken in the great number, Lubbock took 1,000, Amarillo took 500 hospital patients, and little ole Big Springs was in the paper yesterday having taken some 25 families.

Texas has gone way above what any other state has done or offered, and if truth be known, we don't need any more drain on our welfare system that most of these folks will be. But there is no way we could turn our backs to these people in such devastating need who have lost so much. That wouldn't be humane, much less Christian. How many did New York take, or Connecticut, or Ohio, or.....I could go on and on.

Texas is majority conservative/Republican....and yet we are portrayed as not being compassionate.

"No one would accuse this city of being timid in the scramble to profit from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina", said Hillary Clinton in an interview today.

Someone ought to get Hillary's take on yesterday's trial balloon floated to see if NO can successfully stick taxpayers for a new $1b Super Dome.

The times has totally destroyed their own reputation - they are merely a propaganda rag. I don't believe anything printed by the NYT.

We have to come up with an alternate new source, compete with the NYT and eventually show them as the propaganda rag they are.

We have to come up with an alternate new source

We already have. It's called FR and talk radio and, to a lesser extent, Fox News.

We don't need to kill trees to compete with the Slimes. Just peel off one reader at a time into alternative media.

I saw Raines on a week=end talk show.... oh now I remember...it was George Stephanopolis. Raines was sitting next to Cokie Roberts. Yes, I believe he has left the NYT, maybe that's why he didn't bother to mask his utter contempt for George Bush.

I got a chuckle out of Louisiana bred Cokie saying that after her Mother left one of her appointed positions, and after Livingston was forced out of congress, with John Breaux gone, it was harder for Louisiana to get it's fair share of oink oink money.

Done.

Americans 8 to 18 spend an average of 6 hours and 21 minutes a day with media of all sorts, but just 43 minutes with print media.

So, in Houston you prepare for emergencies by stockpiling food, water, blankets, cots, etc., in the event Galeston needs to evacuate to Houston's Astrodome?

Living in Houston all my life, we have always done this. I expect that most people who have lived here long enough to go through a hurricane or tropical storm disaster do keep a hurricane kit stocked and ready to go with water, food, medical supplies and pet supplies in the event that we do need to make a run for it.

Texas was built by neighbor helping neighbor and inviting newcomers to become one of us. We went through something like this in 2001 with the tropical storm that innundated Houston with as much as 35 inches of rain in some areas. Lots of people found themselves flooded and needing rescue. Our friends in Louisiana provided assistance in our time of need.

We're not perfect in Texas and we do have our faults. One of them is that we do not suffer fools lightly.
