This is a model of what the MSM calls "balanced news reporting." First the writer admits a very severe problem with over-valued real estate exists (i.e.
"31 persent of the country's housing market is extremely over valued") and then he quotes a source employed by a real estate lobby group. The net effect is a bit like police trying to calm down a crowd, "Nothing to see here, people. Time to move on."
This type of reporting is not what is required right now, in my personal opinion. Especially if you own real estate in the one of 53 metopolitan areas where housing is "extremely overvauled." Read more about Bubbles? What are they teaching today in the nation's best college journalism programs?
Oh, well, not for me to worry, anyway. I'm just a geezer living in Oregon and nobody listens to me anyway.

This type of reporting is not what is required right now, in my personal opinion. So instead of balance reporting, we need run-for-the-hiils, the-sky-is-falling, fear-mongering, end-of-the-world type reporting?

I wish that I could find a house to buy that had a decent price to it.

Actually the whole "bubble" foolishness burst with Katrina - housing demand is now ever higher.

New house, or tank of gas? New house, or tank of gas? Tough to choose.

It is amazing how many people can't comprehend that simple logic.

Between this and my earlier predictions on oil prices (that they'd go down when Goldman Sachs said they'd go up), I think I should apply for the title of prophet.

I should have made my real concerns about this type of 'shallow, ask no serious questions' reporting more apparent. Rather than excite some people on FR and lurkers in the laimstream media even more, I decided to keep my criticism very restrained. But if you are living in one of those hyper-inflated, over-priced real estate zones, I would seriously consider selling rather than buying. 'Nuff said.

Quite frankly it is refreshing to see other topics than Katrina.

I agree with you. I think with Katrina housing demand is high, as will be materials etc. That just makes all houses worth more to some degree.

Same here. I'd like to stay in San Diego and buy within the next year, but the prices down here are awful.

Good. Maybe my family will be able to get out of our starter home after 11 years.
