Just saw this on ABC news...they are taking guns away from Americans in their own homes! And I'm not talking about gang members. This doesn't sit well with me.

They couldn't get out the people who needed to be gotten out, now they want to chase out the few who managed to survive on their own.
What in heck's name is really going on down there?
I don't understand why all these people have to leave as the situation is improving.
Are we just seeing the complete breakdown of government there?

This follows the mayor's original plan to starve the people out of New Orleans. Now he's going to scare them out. Take away their ability to defend themselves against the criminal element who will remain armed and they either have to leave or be victimized.
FEMA is now part of Homeland Security.

I would take this report with a major grain of salt. Firstly, the NYT as we know are themselves gun grabbers, so it is in their interest for us readers to believe that the NOLA folks are grabbing all guns (and that, of course, the klymers fully approve and want to see it done everywhere!). I'd like to see the actual plan - it may be far more limited than this article makes it appear. Need to hear from someone on or near the scene on this one. Anyone out there close enough to this to provide the real scoop?

At this time it should be only gangbangers left. Law abiding citizens should have left long after the MANDATORY evacuation, or even before the hurricane hit for that matter.
The leftist gun grabbers finally have some good news. Probably a lot of chest thumping and drooling over at DU over this.
This is like a deja-vu of GAZA evacuation... isn't it ?
Ultimately this will happen whenever a disaster of this kind gets out of the control of the ruling authority. They can't have individual American citizens making personal decisions about how to live their lives.
Besides which, those same ruling authorities cannot have 200 million privately owned weapons in the hands of individual American citizens if the global community of free markets and open borders is going to take shape.
And events of this kind will be the spark that sets the precedent for the confiscation you're seeing right now.
I'd like to see them try that in my house.... These old Garands, Carbines, and Thompsons can pack a punch...Bullets aren't like that little bitty 223..... a steel jacketed 30'06 will blast right through a telephone pole....

These are the very same folk who will deny any responsibility to protect either that citizen or his home. This just makes it easier for the government to drag the citizen off to the camps where he can be controled.
I fail to see any legal right to do this and I note there is no legal recourse for trhe citizen as the courts are not in operation, so the government simply does what it desires.
It will only take one public shootout of some poor family being hurt while they are haouled from their home, as seen at Waco, and this will stop.
I expect the citizens are now hiding their arms from the goons.
