The last thing I want is yet another Islamic theocracy. But that's what that blasted purple finger has given us. That 'democracy' you practically praise will give you the next Islamic theocracy, you can bet the bank on it. No, I'm not talking US politics...even though I see where you could be confused.

Sure it will. People who are free to choose their own governemtn vote to be rulled by tyrants all the time. I mean I remember that time in...oh wait, I can't remember any. Can you?

BTW, if it's so obvious the purple finger will lead to Islamist iraq, surely tou can predict how long that will take. So go ahead. Meanwhile, I'll predict that this time next year Iraq will have a constitution in place that does not allow for Sharia law, and their people will have picked a U.S.-friendly secular government.

So mkae your prediction: When do the women with the exposed ankles get herded to the soccer pitch?

Why that statement and a purple finger are such a compelling argument against historical evidence of failure upon failure of attempted Westernization of this area.

Please cite an example of a Western power putting down an autocratic regime in the Middle East and then following it up with a constitutional democracy that was chosen by the people of the country.

What you call "westernization" was colonization, not self-determination.

Newsflash:

On Tuesday, Sept. 6, the US forces in Iraq turned over the its base in Najaf to more than 1500 Iraqi soldiers under the command of Col. Saadi Salih al-Maliky. These Iraqi soldiers were trained by our US forces. U.S. forces relocated to another base farther outside the city so they would be available to assist in a major security crisis.

I'm going to say this again. The city of Najaf, Najaf, 100 miles south of Baghdad, the holiest city in Iraq for Shiite Muslims and the scene of heavy fighting last year between the U.S. Army and the militia of radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, was turned over to US trained Iraqi soldiers.
