Up until yesterday, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin had refused to join critics who say that Hurricane Katrina rescue efforts were slow because the majority of the storm's victims were black.
In an interview Saturday with the New Orleans Times-Picayune, however, Nagin said his thinking had evolved.
"The more I think about it, definitely race played into this,” he told the paper.
"How do you treat people that just want to walk across the bridge and get out, and they’re turned away, because you can’t come to a certain parish?" the embattled mayor complained. "How do resources get stacked up outside the city of New Orleans and they don’t make their way in? How do you not bring one piece of ice?
"If it’s race," said Nagin, "fine, let’s call a spade a spade, a diamond a diamond. We can never let this happen again.
"Even if you hate black people and you are in a leadership position, this did not help anybody,” he added.
1st, "they" didn't have their own transpo to escape
next, "they didn't" have public transpo to escape
now, their escape route was blocked (those not trying to escape ?)
You 'spect me ta believe "they" were all on foot ?

As not once is "man" used by Nagin which he throws out every third to fifth word - 'man'.

Mary Landrieu, on FNC (Chris Wallace) this AM, said that the buses were underwater when the hurricane was coming.
She also said that LA did a better job than AL and MI.
That's all you need to know...he's a SCUMocrat. 'Nuff said. Senator Landrieu is showing her party allegiance these days and it just goes to show how lowly that party is.

Indeed it does, and they are supposed to be anounced every 40 mins on the designated radio and tv stations. the 'EOP shelter supplement'(pdf available at the NO web site) spells out some of the senarios and routes. If that parish was closed, that's why the road was blocked, It has nothing to do with race, it has everything to do with "You going the wrong way!!" Trust Nagin to not realize that SOME Parishes may have actually been trying to follow the plan. Now he blames it on race? Great statement, it makes him look like a bigger fool than he already is.
I live there to. If your referring to illegals, you couldn't be anymore wrong. The burden, cost, crime and problems caused by them is incalculable.

No it doesn't, not in the least. Only if you don't know what the evac plan was, and you play the race card to cover up your mistakes. When an evac plan is called, some parishes are closed, some are opened and the shelters in those safe areas are supposed to be designated. depends where the storm is comming from and what parishes it efects. As I said above, SOME parishes were obviously following the plan, NAGIN hasn't a clue however, and didn't have a clue then either.
So Nagin's admitting that he's a racist for not executing the evacuation plan properly,and for allowing the school buses that were to be used for the evacuation,to instead sit where they were until the water covered them? That's mighty-err-green of him.
Oh, and neither does the media. You should know better than to believe anything you see in the media. Things aren't what they appear. I doubt some dumb journalist looking for a pulitzer picture prize knew what the evac plan was, and how each parish is suppossed to control what goes on in their parish, and coordinate with other parishes to evec people to the right area, using school buses, transit buses for those who don't have their own transportation.
The plan could have worked if NAGIN and the Governor actually knew what it was, and and all the others who were supposed to man the command centres.
True, but based on the comments here at FR, doubtful he'd be welcomed with open arms if he changed back to the GOP. Too bad he didn't have the guts to name names.
