Roberts Reveals His Favorite Movies

2 hours, 22 minutes ago

After two days of intense legal questioning, Supreme Court nominee John Roberts finally addressed a subject most Americans could relate to: His favorite movies are "Doctor Zhivago" and "North by Northwest."

Frustrated by Roberts' answers, Sen. Charles Schumer (news, bio, voting record), D-N.Y., suggested on Wednesday that if he dared to ask the nominee his favorite films, he would get a discussion of cinematography and why "Casablanca" is considered one of the greatest.

Instead, Roberts answered flat out, bringing laughter from the audience and senators alike.

"North by Northwest," Alfred Hitchcock's 1959 classic

After that Roberts proceeded to lecture Schumer on what was appropriate for him to answer and what was not. He then told Chuckie that he wasn't going say how he would rule on an issue just to win a Senators vote for confirmation.

I have to say I think the cinematography is good.

Agreed! Although, I was disappointed to learn that much of Dr. Z was shot in Spain -- in the heat of summer -- no wonder you can't see the actors' breath when they talk!

He should have told them his favorite movie was "Advise and Consent"

LOL. That would have been a classic answer.

North by Northwest is a very good movie, but not nearly as good as Rear Window or Strangers on a Train. Trust The Ghost Of FReepers Past on this matter. LOL!

Trust but verify. The best Alfred Hitchock movies (IMHO) are two classics made before he came to America: The 39 Steps and The Lady Vanishes.

BTW, Roberts should have cited Bob Hope's 1940 film, The Ghost Breakers, if only for this clip.

My favorite Hitchcock (haven't seen them all) is "Shadow of a Doubt", also with Joseph Cotten.

Sorry, I didn't notice that it's the esteemed Chuckie Schumer (Moron-NY) who thinks that cinema-pho-tography is a word.

I didn't realize you were mocking his linguistic brilliance.
