Question about Roberts: I was certainly impressed by his knowledge and ability to explain complex ideas in a fairly clear terms. Apparently, many others were too.

Those of you who know a lot about Con Law and Supreme Court practice, is Roberts like a Tiger Woods of the legal world? When he practiced before the Supreme Court, was he noticeably better than most? Better than David Boies and Ken Starr?

I can't answer that. But I can say that Chuckie Schumer(?) on Bill O' tonight, said Roberts was perhaps the most brilliant nominee that had appeared before them (not that Chuckie was satisfied). Funny was Bill kept insisting that Chuckie would vote for him. lol

By the way, all his responses seemed to be from his head, without refering to notes or prompting from aides.

From what I have heard, yes, Roberts is noticeably better than most when he appeared before the SC. And I believe he has argued before them more than anyone else. That's the reason he has the support of dem lawyers who know him. I also heard Linsey Graham say last night that he believed that Roberts was SO good before the committee, that he will get most votes, even from the dems. That they could not NOT vote for him. I love it!
