Storm response: What people are really saying (ZORN ALERT)
Chicago Tribune ^ | September 15, 2005 | Eric Zorn

Posted on 09/15/2005 7:41:02 AM PDT by Chi-townChief

Cliff Kelley (host)--New Orleans "Mayor [Ray] Nagin is an idiot. It's unfortunate. I'm sorry. The man's a brother, but he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about ... That man is totally incompetent, and it's too bad, because he takes some of the heat off [the Bush administration]. As far as I'm concerned, he didn't fulfill his responsibility."

Linda (caller)--"It's quite obvious why they're doing what they're doing. It's outright racism. We need retaliation!"

Pete (caller)--Former FEMA director Michael Brown "was the person who went into the Air National Guard in Alabama and destroyed [Bush's old military] records."

Rev. George Clements (guest; Catholic priest)--"People ask, when did all of this business about Hurricane Katrina and the fact that there were so many black victims start? And I tell everybody it started in 1619 when those first slaves got to Jamestown."

Valeria (caller)--"I still don't believe [that Bush actually] flew over [the disaster zone] on Wednesday [two days after the storm]."

Felicia (caller )--"The number of dead people is being undercounted. FEMA plans to get rid of [the bodies] so that nobody knows what happened."

Rose Sanders (guest, founder and president of the National Voting Rights Museum and Institute in Selma, Ala.)--"If we had been a very organized, well-connected people, like the Jewish people in this country, there is no way [this would have happened]."

Atlee Berrie (guest, evacuee from New Orleans currently living on the West Side)--A [neighbor of mine] said she heard a loud boom before the water came up. I believe with all my heart [a deliberately set explosion to breach the levee] is exactly what they did. [The way the water was flowing in my neighborhood] "made no sense at all."

You can listen to them live here: http://www.realoldies1690.com/main.html

They still do Animal Stories and Larry's Address to the Nation. What they don't do that I really miss is The Cheap Trashy Showbiz Report although they do have Celebrity Worship.

There was a barge full of dynomiiiiite that was pushed into position and then detonated.

Or else they set bombs below the levee and exploded them because divers found burn marks on rocks and had them analyzed.

One of the two. I don't know which, but it was one.

Let me rephrase that a little bit - blacks and whites in Chicago get along pretty good on an individual basis but on the so-called "leadership" level, there are huge problems which are generally political disguised as racial.

When I traveled Illinois, I always set my first sales call so I'd be back in my car in time for Animal Stories.

Well I live in Atlanta, and it's pretty much the same thing. Maybe the WLS listeners and callers I hear are just a nicer bunch and I'm getting a false impression because of that.

The stuff you'll hear on Kelley's show is all that different from the crap you hear on Air America. And other than Rush and Hannity, WLS doesn't get real political except for entertainment value.

Remember - the dead are just registered Dems, so they don't have to be counted.

A caller to Rush said that in essence, the water had to travel through the rich white neighborhoods before it could reach the poor black neighborhoods.

I've listened to black talk radio in Memphis and even called in one time. The talk show host was an elected official. Anyway, I very respectfully asked a question (on the topic of the day) about why a local school principal should get of the hook when she had been caught "fixing" test scores. I believe my question specifically addressed the fact that by the principal cheating, wasn't she cheating the students out of an education? The elected official verbally took me to task....actually told me that I had no right to question her and then hung up on me. LOL Ok.

Well, they aren't slaves now and haven't been for generations, so why don't we gather up the poor ones and ship them back to Africa, including Rev. George Clements, where they would have a better life, free of poverty and racism......(sarcasm of course)

Non-Chicagoans should be made aware of the fact that the host is a convicted CROOK. I know it is inconceivable that a Chicago alderman would do something illegal but there it is. All the scheming white devils' fault no doubt.

Part of the problem is the conspiracy theory in the black population.

I used to listen about the same period as you. I was laughing all the way to work with what was coming from the poisonned, addled minds of the listners. Pure comedy radio, you can't make this stuff up.

Common sense was always a no show and taking responsiblity was never an option.

That station is so racist it is unbelievable.
