I want the new spending offset by other new spending, like the hundreds of billions of dollars of pork passed just this year.

The amount of expenditure W is proposing will bankrupt this nation.

No it won't. I'm astounded that you are so hysterical over this.

What do you propose? Just say to hell with the Gulf Coast?

"FDR is looking down and smiling."

He started it. After all the recent blame game...that is who I blame along with LBJ. Too many people looking for the cuprits among the living.

Haley Barbour was on and made all from Mississippi proud. This is a man who lead this country in 2008.

Very good idea. Other than what i've seen of him these last few weeks, I know nothing of the man. What kind of baggage would Barbour have to overcome?

There's a reason Third Party types are usually relegated to the fringe.

They were waiting for an excuse to come out of the woodwork tonight, weren't they!

"Pretty boy Shep was anchoring"

Let me guess, Shep had nothing good to say about the President.

No, it won't. But the sillier thing is to actually have expected that W was going to go on TV tonight and tell the Gulf states that they were cut off from any more federal money. Did you really, honestly expect that? Of course you didn't.

I am proud of my MS heritage. I lived there until I was 22. It is a great state with terrific people.

Good speech. GOOD speech!?!?

This speech ranked right up there with the crap LBJ was spewing when I was in highschool. Except that LBJ could fake sincerity much better.

I'm in Macomb county that I brag is a true red spot in a blue state.

BUT I came from Cuyahoga County. I shutter to think of it.
I was actually there when Kucinich was mayor of Cleveland. OH what a joke.

He was in tune with the forest animals then too.

if Buchanan had gotten elected, the US wouldn't have control over the internet, the stock markets would never have grown, all foreign businesses, their connections and contracts would have been cut off...

it would be a nightmare.

The US would be a 3rd world economy.

Awesome. I do love Ohio, I love it Fall, Spring and Summer, but I hate the Winter. I love the people. I love how beautiful and diverse it is. But I hate snow with a passion.

Dick Morris thinks Bush did a fabulous job. Thinks he'll be greater than ever. Even Alan Colmes is impressed. Must be all the spending!!!
Watch how many libs now accuse Bush of pandering to the black vote!! Ha!!

The first step should be to bulldoze the haven of booze and sexual depravity of every persuasion, Bourbon Street. "Southern Decadence," indeed.

$5000 to go to education. That is better system to me than just handing it out.

I am using federal grants to get my education. Am I a bad person?

If I might bump in, of course you are not, you are just taking a loan. Others may abuse the program and that is what concerns me about federal programs.

About 15 years ago, I worked at a mine that closed due to unfair foreign competition (dumping of metal by Russia which depressed world markets below the production cost of many producers). At least at that time, a federal fund existed which was similar in many respects to the President's plan for education. Of all the people put out of work by this closure, about half made use of the education and UB continuation program. The rest just got other jobs, very few paying as well as the mine.

Of those taking the education and extended unemployment benefits, about 1/3 used them as intended, however 2/3 used the time to "vacation" and live off the dole. Welfare tends to work like that. It doesn't poison everyone but does the majority.

It may be possible to devise an assistance plan that delivers aid but resists fraud. Don't ever believe that the politicians will ever willingly come up with it. There welfare programs created much of this mess to begin with.

Here in Iowa and the rest of the cornbelt, NO is the primary port for moving their crop to the rest of the world. As long as the NO area is down, agriculture is threatened.

In addition, over one-quarter of the oil brought into this country comes through NOLA. That doesn't even include the oil production and refining capacity in the region.

BTW, we cannot entrust this effort to the corrupt leadership of NO and LA.
