LOL
Just got thru barfing after the Ted Koppulate show.
Three down and one to go.

Am watching Primetime right now and the message is "we are all gonna die"!!

No one can get out of the cities in a disaster/attack so we are all gonna die!

Got news for ABC.
I can skin a buck, can run a trot line and a country boy can survive.
Got tons of dry food stashed away, chickens and hogs in the backyard, lots of shotgun, rifle, and pistol ammo.
Live out in the boonies where deer/bird hunting is a way of life.

Just because the cities die dont mean the country will.

Hell Yes!

I will comment on the actual speech later, but did anyone else see the interviews with the people watching the President’s speech from the Astrodome on ABC? They were live and took place immediately following the speech. I was bracing myself for a bunch of Bush-bashing and skepticism that the President meant anything he said. Instead I found myself cheering “hell yes.”

If anyone has a link to video or the transcript, please forward it to me or post in the comments section.

All of those interviewed at the Astrodome were black. They were all evacuees from New Orleans. When the first person was asked if she believed the President she said “yes.” She said that what the President said lifted her up and gave her hope. When the reporter questioned her about the slow response of the federal government, she said they did a good job once they got there and that she blamed the local and state officials, who had not done their jobs. She said they were the ones there when the storm hit and they did not do what they needed to do. Then she got on a rant about the buses that were not used. She later said she blamed Mayor Nagin personally.

The others interviewed also spoke very favorably about the President. I don’t remember the specifics, but I was flabbergasted that the responses were so positive. My best guess as to the reason is that these people responded as they did is that they have not been able to watch the cable news coverage.

Also on ABC, Aaron Broussard said that the President said what the people in the region needed to hear – hope. He said they did not need a blame game, they needed hope. Boy, if only the media understood that.

State Sen. Cleo Fields was interviewed and did not bash the President. He actually spoke pretty kindly of him. He faulted the government on all levels. I think that all the money the Louisiana politicians see coming their way is making them think much more favorably of the President.

I am now going to switch channels to find out if ABC’s response is similar to the others.

UPDATE: Ian Schwartz did not get video of the ABC interviews, but he found this Free Republic post about them for me. He also has video of the President’s speech.

I am stunned by all the laissez-faire libertarians on here having conniptions over Bush for trying to organize this relief effort. This isn't welfare state nonsense. The nation has just been hit by a disaster that has destroyed cities! Hundreds of thousands of people are displaced. All facets of our society, including the government, have the obligation to come to their aide, or we are not a civilized society. What do you want Bush to do? Tell all the refugees to wait for the invisible hand of the free market to save them? Is abandoning people in their time of need a conservative value now?

Too bad he doesn't know his arse from a hole in the ground. What he gave is FALSE hope. It's called blowing smoke and he blew with a vengeance. Political hack.

Blowing smoke is the rhetoric you are tossing with a vengeance here tonight. Be specific with your claims, otherwise your cheap shots aren't worth the bandwidth wasted to type them. You should know better.

Comparing this to LBJ is like comparing Iraq with Viet Nam.

This was exactly like a Great Society speech. How does it differ besides the fact that LBJ had a (D) next to his name and Bush has an (R) next to his?

Hey maroon, who rebuilt Galveston? If New Orleans is to be rebuilt below sea-level, let it be by people who want to take that risk, not me and not my kids and grandkids.

MS wants insurance companies to pay flood claims - for people who don't have flood insurance. its nothing more then a shakedown of private industry.

Just heard on local San Francisco radio today that San Frans head of Emergency Services has absolutely no experience in the field and is just in that position due to nepotism. Her godfather was former SF Mayor Jordan. And Jordan has been getting her into positions that she wasn't qualified for for years.

Here in SF, one of the most at risk cities in the country.

"This was an MBA speech, full of entrepeneurship, new businesses springing up, ownership of jobs and homes. It was a speech of promise and hard work by the great people of America."

ANYTHING can be done...with the help of a blank check written by Uncle Sam.

Scarborough is trying to keep his job on his liberal network. This is the last job he will ever get.

Basic problem with insurance is that the companies are claiming that damages caused by the storm is characterized as damage from flooding.
