It seemed like a good idea at the time: a light-hearted advertising campaign to persuade Romanians to adopt a stray dog, using pictures of three well-known 'historical figures with their pets.
Posters across the capital showed Adolf Hitler, Nicolae Ceausescu Romanias former dictator and George W Bush, over the slogan: 'A dog loves you just the way you are.
But the American Embassy did not find the association of Mr Bush with two hated dictators so amusing and, hours after The Sunday Telegraph sought advertising agency McCann Ericssons reaction to the campaign, company workers had ripped the posters down.
Romania has been plagued by packs of dogs since President Ceausescu, an animal lover whose security service tortured and murdered thousands, banned the killing of strays. Hitler also could not abide cruelty to animals.
The Romanian National Committee for the Protection of Animals had at first said that its campaign would show that 'even the most hated dictators on this planet received love from their dogs. Yesterday, the advertising agency denied that Mr Bush and his Scottish terrier, Barney, had ever been depicted on posters for the campaign.

What a surprise they didn't use Clinton and his deceased dog in the ad.

Big deal. Some nincompoops in Europe compare Bush to Hitler. Who gives a f***?
Maybe the next time one of their countries with eight dozen kook political parties runs amok and tries to take over the continent, like THEIR HITLER did, we'll just keep our "Imperialist" American asses safe and secure on THIS side of the pond and let them solve their own f****** problems.

The leftist media is TOTALLY bankrupt.
And if they had thrown Clintoon in there too, he was much more INTO DOGS in a big way, than Bush. I have a great pic of Clintoon and his two main DOGS, but it would not make it past the admins :-)

I wonder who was driving the car. Maybe a friend of Clinton's from PETA?

How could you not see how that might stir the pot?

Yesterday, the advertising agency denied that Mr Bush and his Scottish terrier, Barney, had ever been depicted on posters for the campaign.Does the Telegraph have a pic of the posters? Some people (like those in the agency) think they can get away with "no, we didn't do it..."

Looks like they have pulled down their web site to hide their phone numbers. Tried finding it with no luck. We need to organize over this scandal.

I find it sickening and very offensive for Bush's name to even be in the same sentence as those pieces of scum. I am originally from the UK, think Bush is great, America is great and detest Hitler and Ceausescu.

McCann-Ericson is a U.S. ad agency.
Wanna guess their political affiliation?

So now the First Dog is being politicized. I wondered when they'd finally say "it's Barney's fault!"
