Being somewhat rather new to Texas (4 years) I am not super familiar will all the politicians. What the word on Carole Strayhorn, the Comptroller running against Rick Perry?
Perry's a former Democrat and sometimes acts like that regarding state spending and taxes.
In her speech, Strayhorn says some promising things like:
"I am Carole Keeton Strayhorn and I stand before you today as a Republican candidate for Governor in 2006.... We can and we must stop Perrys pay to play --- 184 billion dollar boondoggle --- his Trans Texas Corridor... My vision for Texas ....Limited government/unlimited What we need from government is less not more: Less mandates, Less regulations, Less government spending, Less taxation..."
But then she seems to be advocating big government programs under the guise of fiscal conservatism?
"I am a fiscal conservative. I am a common sense conservative. Id rather spend $2,500 a year educating a young Texan, than $16,000 a year incarcerating that young Texan....Id rather spend $98 a month insuring a child, than $6,700 dollars for one hospital stay for that child."
What's the skinny on Strayhorn?
It's hard to tell who is a true conservative. Bush is spending like a drunken sailor.
I don't live there, but I keep up with the political scene there. IMO, Strayhorn is toast...not a serious contender.
She is a crazed moonbat.
Every other word out of her mouth is "I" or "me".
She was the 2002 A&M commencement speaker and spent 30 minutes educating us in how many ways to say, "I Love Me".
Not in a million years.
DOA.
I don't like that she is dissing the Governor. It's weakening the Republican party.
She should shut up - my opinion.
Please bump to the Texas Freeper list
Strayhorn has all the charm of Ma Richards, just not as many wrinkles. She's toast since Perry scored big time with his management of Katrina. It's better to be lucky than good.
First, all posts about her should use her full name:
Carole Keeton-McClellan-Rylander-Strayhorn.
Second, I'd vote for Kathleen Blanco before I'd vote for her. I'm no Perry fan, but he has my vote in the primary.
Ping!
Don't forget that John Worldpeace is also a candidate.

I think her full name is Carole Keeton McClellan Rylander Strayhorn. There may be a few other names she's used...every time I read the local paper in Austin, there's ol' Carole, operating under yet another handle.
She's a career politician, and is probably better suited to local politics than statewide. She has done a satisfactory job as Comptroller, however.
Frankly, I'd be far more concerned if she was running for Lieutenant Governor.
She's a washed and put out to dry, Ma - Foot in the mouth - Richards.
As they say in Texas, "All hat and no cows."
I haven't trusted her since back in the early 80s when she was plain old Carole McClellan (Scott was probably in high school then) and she was the liberal mayor of Austin. I don't trust her now.
Her son is WH Press Sec Scott Mcllelan(sp?). I think she will have a hard time beating RP.
Carole Keeton-McClellan-Rylander-[Your name here]-Strayhorn.
I've been active in Texas GOP politics for over 30 yrs...neither this woman nor Gov. Perry impress me...I'm voting for Kinky
My word is to avoid her like the plague. RINO. Former liberal Austin mayor. Changes positions like she changes husbands.
Perry may be no bargain but he's a better option than Crying Carole. Although he doesn't deserve all the credit, he did an admirable job both during the Hurricane Katrina aftermath and the Hurricane Rita evacuation.
At one point I was going to change my views and go with Strayhorn, just because I had not liked Perry ( he is an aggie). But I am seeing Perry in a different light. I think he will get re-elected because of the way Texas handled last weekend's Rita. I had been told Scott McClellan was Stayhans son, but I am not sure if that is correct. She reminds me too much of Ann Richards, so I just don't think I can go with her at this time.
Yep, me too. I have my Kinky bumper sticker and yard signs ready for the election.
